Carmen Harlan Obituary

Published by San Jose Mercury News/San Mateo County Times on May 12, 2017.
Carmen Cecilia Harlan
October 1, 1931 - February 12, 2017
Resident of Sunnyvale
Carmen Cecilia Harlan, 85, of Sunnyvale, CA., passed away peacefully on Feb. 12, 2017. Carmen was born in Chattanooga, TN on Oct. 1, 1931 to Mildred and Joe Paradiso. Carmen had three sons and took pride in being a mother. She and her family enjoyed road trips throughout the US, Canada and Mexico. In the summers, they enjoyed lengthy camping trips along the CA coast. She treasured these years.
Carmen enjoyed knitting and was a wonderful seamstress. She was an avid reader who adored John Steinbeck and loved a good Ann Rule book. More than anything, she loved to socialize with family and friends.
Carmen will be forever missed and remembered for her laugh, strength, perseverance, the special bond she had with her sons, her greeting loved ones with a kiss on both cheeks, her funny quips, and the southern accent she never lost. She will be remembered for her devotion to her boys and the lessons she taught them about love, kindness and being good men.
Carmen is survived by her beloved sons, Bill Blas of Truckee, Wayne Harlan (Lorai) of Sunnyvale and Ryan Harlan (Heidi) of San Jose. Carmen is survived by five grandchildren, Michelle Blas, Nicholas Harlan (Natalie), Sandra Harlan, Christy Harlan and Wesley Harlan. Two great grandchildren, Joseph Reyes and Brady Harlan. Carmen is also survived by her sister, Beverly Fletchall (Jerry), of Florida, and their children, David, Mike and niece Lynn.
Carmen is preceded in death by her parents, and her cherished daughter in law, Carol Ann Blas, who was surely an Angel at Heaven's Gate ready to guide her.
