Carol George Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 31, 2025.
Carol Blumenschein George died peacefully in her home on March 28, 2025, at the age of 89 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Carol was born on August 23, 1935, in Evergreen Park, IL to Carl and Rose Blumenschein. She grew up in Elmhurst with her younger brother George, graduating from Elmhurst High School in 1953.

After high school she went on to earn a BS degree at Purdue University in 1957, after which she completed the inaugural one-year graduate degree for women from Harvard Business School in 1958 (it would be two more years before they allowed women to earn two-year degrees). After Harvard, she began working at The Northern Trust Company in Chicago, IL. While working there she met her husband Raymond George Jr. - they were married in 1960 and eventually settled in Northfield, IL.

Carol was actively involved in many community and charitable causes, including serving as President of Evanston Hospital Board, President of the Garden Guild of Winnetka and various other organizations. One of her true gifts was organizing an outstanding party, including an annual Christmas party at her home, as well as the legendary Evanston Hospital Ball. Carol also worked as a real estate agent for Bradbury, Romey, Egan and Partners in Winnetka.

Carol travelled extensively throughout her life, including Europe, Asia and Africa, loving the opportunity to experience a variety of cultures and wildlife. After one trip to Africa, she fell in love with elephants, which became a theme in her homes in Winnetka, IL and The Village of Golf, FL. Carol had many deep and long-lasting friendships and was known as an understanding and loyal friend. An exceptional cook, she treated her family to a variety of culinary delicacies, drawing upon the recipes from her mother. When she wasn't perfecting her immaculate gardens and landscaping, she was doting upon her beloved Airedale terriers.

Carol is survived by her daughters Renee McColl (Hugh) and Melissa Iserloth, and her son Raymond George III (Sally), grandchildren Hugh IV (Katie) and Tanner McColl, Barr, Nicholas and Caroline Iserloth, and Raymond George IV, and great-grandchild Eloise McColl.

Carol's memorial service and burial will be a private affair. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in her name to the charity of your choice.

Carol spent her last years at Westminster Place in Evanston, IL. Although she lived just across the hall from us, we didn't know her well because she was very ill and didn't come out of her apartment often. However, she was friendly, sweet, and engaging whenever she could join us at cocktail hours. She seemed proud of her family when she introduced us to them in the dining room. I am glad she chose Westminster Place as she was well cared for here by staff and by her personal caregivers.
