Carol Ann Roy Lemon

Prattville - Carol Ann Roy Lemon, 74, of Prattville, Alabama, passed away Monday, August 27, 2018. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at Hunter Hills Church. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Prattville Memorial Chapel and also on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Hunter Hills Church. Ms. Lemon was preceded in death by her parents, Percy Duncan Roy, Sr. and Anna Louise Carr Roy and her sister, Belinda Faye Roy Burridge. She is survived by her two daughters, Angela Lemon George Duewall (Steven) and Tammy Lemon Terry (Michael); five grandchildren, Hunter George, Payton George, Samuel Terry, Vivianna Terry, Gabriel Terry; her brother, Dr. P. Duncan Roy, Jr.; nephews Bradford Roy, Rick Burridge, Michael Burridge; nieces, Kimberly Roy Harris (John), Kelly Roy, Michelle Burridge; and numerous extended family members and many dear friends.

Carol's life was rooted in hard work and strong character. At a young age, she and her siblings took responsibility for chores on the family farm before heading to school at Marbury. She grew up learning that faith, grit and ironclad strength would carry her through this life. Throughout her youth, she was known as someone on whom you knew you could depend. She watched her father and mother build their dream as they built the family farm that she would eventually save and preserve.

After several decades of building the family farm into a successful operation that focused on cotton, there came a time of drought and uncontrollable conditions that led to a financial hardship on her parents, the Roys. When Carol found out about the challenges, she never hesitated for a moment. She figured out a way and risked everything she had been building for herself and her daughters...and she did it! Carol single handedly bought the farm and it is still actively working today focusing on cattle. It has become a place to come home to, where her family gathers and will continue to gather. In her last years, it became a place of solace for her and she found peace there, taking her grandchildren for golf cart rides in the pasture, cooking family suppers and taking care of her cows, especially Buttercup.

People throughout Autauga County and the surrounding area knew Carol for her real estate prowess and her unrelenting dedication to building her own dream, just like her parents had done before her. She always quoted her father as saying that you could work from your head up or your shoulders down. She did both. She started humbly, selling real estate for Aronov Realty in Prattville. It did not take long for her to build that into an impressive and ever growing list of homes sold and families helped. She loved helping people find the place where they would raise their families and enjoy as a refuge. It became a running joke when she held the Agent of the Month awards at Aronov for several years. She took those plaques with her when she opened Carol Lemon Realty 30 years ago. Those were just a handful of the numerous awards and titles she held. Every year, she climbed higher and higher in recognition of the countless homeowners she helped. But it was not about the awards. Carol simply knew no other way to live than to put her nose to the grindstone and help others along the way.

Carol always took pleasure in working hard and earning what she had. Although several challenges came, she always persevered and fought without falling down. Her children remember that when she fell back, it was on her faith and on her knees. Carol was a friend and confidant to many in her community. The community rallied around her when she fought and beat kidney cancer. That experience inspired her to support the fight against cancer by being a Relay for Life Survivors' Dinner supporter for more than two decades. Carol served in numerous service organizations including Prattville Service League, the Chamber of Commerce, the Alabama Cattleman's Association and many others during her life. She had a pattern of sacrificing herself for those she loved even until her last days on Earth with us. She also found new things that she enjoyed in her later years, mostly dancing her feet off. We are grateful for the time we had with her and life will never be the same. We hold comfort in knowing that she is now dancing with Jesus and the stress of life has been left behind. Farewell Mom, you were so, so loved and you will be so, so missed...

There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every [a]event under heaven—

2 A time to give birth and a time to die;

A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted.

3 A time to kill and a time to heal;

A time to tear down and a time to build up.

4 A time to weep and a time to laugh;

A time to mourn and a time to dance.

~Ecclesiastes 3:1-4

Carol was such a wonderful friend . She helped me buy my home when I moved to Prattville in 2003. She was ever so patient and helpful as she always wanted me to have exactly what I wanted. I made Gingerbread houses for her for several years. One year I had made 50 houses and then my mixer broke. I called and told her I couldn't meet her requirements because I couldn't find one in town to replace the broke mixer. A couple days later there was a knock at the door, there she stood with a large box with a bow on it. Merry Christmas Carol said. With a BIG Smile and grinn, Carol said, I need 5 more Gingerbread houses ASAP. That year I remember making more than 60 Gingerbread houses for Carol. She never reviewed her source. It was such a joy to know and work together with Carol over the years. Words cannot express how much you'll be missed. All my best to the family. Don Chambers

I met Carol Lemon when I moved to Prattville as the manager of Sherwin Williams. She was a wonderful lady and I always enjoyed working with her. I always knew were she was selling homes because her little Yellow VW would be parked in front of the house. Carol will be missed. Prayers for her family.

I fondly remember her saying to me,"It is not Ms. Lemon, it's Carol." She would come, worried about us, as waitresses, and not want to be a bother to us. "Carol, I enjoyed serving you at Country's BBQ,Cracker Barrel & at Jim's. Sipping that coffee and doing your homework. Imma going to miss you. Love, Dee Dee Engart
