Carol MARIKA Obituary
(nee Strashok)
April 3, 1944 - April 14, 2012
Carol Joan Irene Marika, beloved wife of William (Bill) of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Rockyview Hospital with her family at her side on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the age of 68 years. Carol was born, raised and was married to Bill in Edmonton. They, with their two children, moved to Calgary in 1971 which became their home ever since. As a parent and grandparent, Carol's greatest love was that of young children and as a result she volunteered as a "cuddler" in the maternity ward at the Rockyview for many years until she had her own grandchildren. Carol had a great affinity for the wonders of water, starting with her childhood days at the family cabin at Pigeon Lake and continued with their recent vacation home at Vancouver Island. Even her vacations with Bill during their retirement years always seemed to be in the proximity of water. Carol will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, friendly outgoing personality, and welcoming approach to whomever she met. Carol leaves to mourn, her husband William; children, Curtis Dickie, Pamela Marika and James Marika; two beautiful and loved grandchildren Evan and Aimee Hay; and her brother Raymond Strashok; along with two nieces and three nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Merian and Amelia Strashok and brother Ted. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) today, April 19, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church (1600 Acadia Drive S.E.) on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com . The family extends their grateful thanks to the doctors and nursing staff for their dedicated care of Carol during her recent illness. In living memory of Carol Marika, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.

Dear Bill and family:
We only just learned of Carol's passing and are so shocked and saddened! She was a wonderful lady with a lovely smile and a real joy in life. We thoroughly enjoyed the dinners we shared with you both. May you find comfort in knowing that Carol suffers no longer and is now at peace. She will be much missed and we will always remember her with affection.

So many times I was at the house in Bonavista and listened to her lyrical voice and praise Pam and Jamie in what they participated in. She always had a smile and laugh to share. I am glad to have known her and will keep her laughter in my life to share with others.

My deepest sympathies to Bill, Pam, Jim, Curtis and families.
I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting Carol while vacationing in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico over last few years.
Carol and Bill would join Curtis, Sean, myself and many others over dinner during our stay.
I found Carol to be full of grace, style, and elegance. She had sparkling eyes, and a smile that would light up the room! When she laughed you could see the joy in her heart.
Thank you Carol for bringing that joy to everyone you touched, we will miss you!
