Caroline Dill Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 16, 2006.
Caroline "Aprille" Dill lost her fight with cancer on Sunday, May 14, 2006, after an 18 month valiant fight.

The daughter of Horace E. Dill Jr. and the late Bettye Feagan Dill, Aprille was a native of Greenville, S.C., and was President of Dilco of Greenville, Inc. at the time of her passing. A graduate of Eastside High School in 1979, Aprille attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville on a full swimming scholarship, where she swam competitively while pursuing academic studies. Aprille returned home to Greenville due to the untimely death of her mother in 1985, and, while working with her father at Dilco, attended the Adult Program at Furman University. In 2000, Aprille graduated Cum Laude from Furman with her Bachelor of General Studies Degree, with a major in Accounting. She was elected a member of the national honor society, Alpha Sigma Lambda, at Furman University.

In addition to swimming competitively, Aprille enjoyed coaching. She was a coach for Edwards Forest Swim Team in the late '70s and later became an age group swim coach for Team Greenville from 2001-2003. She was devoted to helping children from all walks of life, and was elected to the Board of Directors for Camp Opportunity, where she served until 2005, supporting summer camps for foster children. During the past two years, Aprille's passion was to learn water navigation, and she embarked upon piloting courses through Greenville Tech, where she excelled in her learning. She was a member of the United States Power Squadrons.

In addition to her dedication to helping under-privileged and abused children, Aprille was elected as Vice President of the South Carolina Financial Services Association in 2002, and then became President of the same, in 2003 - 2004. Aprille's plans included starting programs to work with children with cancer.

She is survived by a sister, Rosanne Diehl, M.D., and her father, Horace E. Dill Jr., both of Henderson County, N.C.; a paternal aunt, Kathleen Parlor of Harleyville, S.C.; and several first cousins in South Carolina, New Jersey, and Texas.

A memorial service is scheduled at the Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at 5 p.m. The family will receive friends at 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the South Carolina Ovarian Cancer Foundation, 706 East Washington St., Greenville, SC 29601.

Cremation Society of South Carolina assisted the Dill family with arrangements.
