Carolyn Louise Cochran

Feb. 17, 1933 - April 17, 2003

A courageous lady passed away after a long battle with bone cancer. Carolyn was born to Herbert and Hazel Keyt in Indianapolis, Indiana and leaves behind her siblings, Donald (Joan), David (Chris), Marge Clark and Maxine (George) Stigall.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard (Pete) L. Cochran.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Carolyn leaves behind her son Brian Cochran and his wife Christina and their daughter Kayla; and her daughter Valerie Anderson, her husband Charley and their children Cyrus, Collin and Chloe. She also leaves behind her caregivers, Judy Ingalls, Wallie Pierce, Belle and Chuck.
Carolyn lived the dash in her life to the fullest. She graduated from Tech High School in Indianapolis and at her father's urging, worked to save money to put herself through the Methodist School of Nursing. Before Carolyn graduated she met and married Pete, and supported them both as a nurse at Purdue University while Pete earned his Engineering Degree.
Upon Pete's graduation, Carolyn left the work force to raise Brian and Valerie. Carolyn enjoyed her time as a mother and as the children grew she was involved in their school activities such as 4-H, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and PTA. In the late 60's, Carolyn returned to work as a RN, she chose to work in the Long Term Care Industry eventually earning her Administrator's License. She took great delight in caring for and working with people. Carolyn was administrator in many long-term care centers in Snohomish County. She was regarded highly by her employees and clients in the industry. As part of her passion for the elderly she advocated at the state level by participating in the Council of Aging, and the Long Term Care Association. She lobbied in Olympia for patients rights, meeting Governor Booth Gardner on several occasions.
Carolyn retired from Regency Care Center in Arlington in 1993 and had planned to spend her retirement traveling with her husband, Pete. However, not long after her retirement she was diagnosed with Multiple Myloema bone cancer. Carolyn's spirit and positive outlook on life helped her last well past her two-year prognosis. Those who loved and knew her admired Carolyn's courage and strength.
Her family extends special thanks to Chris Keyt, Neva Johnson, Dr. Batson and Dr. Robert Drury and their staff, and Snohomish County Hospice for the tender care they lavished on Carolyn.
A Celebration of her spirit will be held Saturday, April 26, 2003 at 1:00pm at Schaefer-Shipman in Marysville, WA. A reception for friends, family and associates will be held following the memorial at the Granville Grange, 9401 163rd Ave. NE, Granite Falls, WA.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Multiple Myloema Foundation or Snohomish County Hospice.
