Carrol Babcock

Carrol J. Babcock, age 85, a resident of Lake In The Hills, Illinois for over 30 years, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Monday, March 17, 2025.

Carrol was born on October 20, 1939, in Chicago and was the daughter of the late Nicholas & Helen (nee' Kregal) Tortorich.

Carrol married George C. Babcock on October 12, 1973. After 49 years of marriage, George preceded Carrol in death on January 26, 2023.

After graduating high school and secretarial school, Carrol started her career as a secretary with the Illinois State's Attorney's office in Chicago. Her career included numerous secretarial positions culminating with the Executive Assistant to the CEO role at Centel Corporation, including being the Secretary to the Board of Directors, and subsequently the President of The Centel Foundation from which she retired. Carrol was smart as a whip and her talents were recognized in her increasingly important roles.

For those that knew Carrol, she had an energy and wit that made people want to be around her. Holiday gatherings and family parties were full of laughs primarily due to her quips and funny one liners. She enjoyed golf with the love of her life, George, and relished family time where she was always the life of any party. Carrol truly touched everyone that knew her and she will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her brother, Nicholas (Mary) Tortorich, four children, Scott D.(Anne) Martenson, Brian L. Martenson, Patricia K. (James ) Carney, and William S. Babcock; eight grandchildren, Carly (Anish) Tailor, Alexander Martenson, Zachary Martenson, Rachel (Scott) Klein, Erik Martenson, Megan (Kurt) Kuczora, Heather (Kenneth) Galinski, and Jimmy Carney; and five great-grandchildren, Connor, Landon, Annie, Kaden, and Gavin.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Carrol was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret J. Lind.

Visitation will be held at Miller Funeral Home in West Dundee on Sunday, March 30, 2025, from 1:00 P.M. - 3:00 P.M.
