Caryl Founds Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 18, 2025.
Caryl Jean (Tortorello) Founds February 2, 1945 - January 10, 2025

Caryl Jean Founds, daughter of William and Helyn Tortorello, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025, in Jupiter, Florida, surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 2, 1945, in Evanston, Illinois.

Caryl spent the greater part of her life in Gibbsboro, New Jersey, where she raised her two daughters, Susan and Karyn, with unconditional love and commitment to their happiness and well-being.

For over 40 years, Caryl devoted herself to shaping young minds as a Montessori director and educator in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. She was not only a teacher; Caryl was a mentor, role model, and a source of inspiration to countless students, families, and colleagues.

Caryl found beauty in the simple joys of life. She was a dedicated Catholic who embraced prayer and faith as guiding forces in her journey. She was an avid reader, delighted in the vibrant colors of her garden, and playing games with loved ones. But above all, her greatest joy came from the time she spent with her family, creating precious memories filled with love and laughter.

Caryl is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Susan (Frank) Laney and Karyn (Frank) Casel, her son-in-law Daniel Casel, and her treasured grandchildren: TJ Landis, Max Jackson, Jake Jackson, Luke Casel, John Laney, Cort Laney, and Katie Casel. She is also survived by her siblings, William Tortorello Jr., Maribeth (Tortorello) Orehovec, Michael Tortorello, Donna (Tortorello) Terry, and John Tortorello. She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Richard Founds.

Caryl's love, vibrant spirit, wit, laughter, and light will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew her. She will continue to inspire and comfort those she held dear.

"Little groundhog, how we love you so; you will always be our sunshine wherever we go."

To honor Caryl's wishes, there will be an intimate family gathering to celebrate her life at her home in Jupiter, FL on February 1, 2025.

The family requests donations be made to the Friends of the Palm Beach County Library in her honor.

Our family became a part of Caryl Founds“ Cherry Hill, New Jersey Montessori family back in 1987 and continued there until 1998. Caryl was the reason for our Montessori longevity who taught or had other teachers utilized her skills to teach our children through kindness to respect others, awakened their passion for knowledge academically and physically, and provided structure to minimize chaos. Caryl created a wonderful beginning for our children to embrace learning. Her physical presence will be missed but the legacy she promoted lives on!

How very blessed I was to have spent time with Caryl. Her quick wit and sense of humor was something I always looked forward to. You never knew what she was going to say, but her priceless facial expressions usually gave you an idea. Our mother ~ daughter lunches, beach days and sitting around the kitchen table laughing and playing Rummikub are very special memories I will treasure. You will truly be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing you.
