Catherine Homish

Catherine (Kay) Homish, 90, Eynon, died peacefully Tuesday at her home. Her husband of 68 years is Andrew Homish.

Born in Jermyn, daughter of the late Anthony and Eva Fedorchak Franchak, she was a graduate of Archbald High School class of 1946. As a young lady, she worked in the garment industry before becoming a wonderful homemaker and mother, raising her children and looking after her grandchildren.

One of her last wishes was to go back and hold all her grandbabies again. She was an avid Yankees fan and took pride in the fact that she taught her grandchildren how to play baseball. We will never forget her wonderful smile and pretty blue eyes.

She is survived by a son, David and wife, Michele Homish, Archbald; daughters, Marlene and Thomas Torch, Peckville; Cathy and John Yanniello, Old Forge; Debbie and Michael Kolsovsky, Eynon. Her smile lit up around her six grandchildren, John and Jared Yanniello, Amanda Berg, Olivia and Evan Homish and Justin Kolsovsky; and her two great-grandchildren, Amelia Kay and Anna Pearl Yanniello; three brothers, Anthony, Jermyn; Stephen, Jermyn; and Nicholas, Archbald; several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Anna and Mary Franchak and Helen Pekaar; and six brothers, John, Basil, Peter, Joseph, Paul and Michael Franchak.

The family would like to thank the many people who helped over the past few months, the staff and the nurses at the Hospice of Sacred Heart and Interim HealthCare, along with their caring aides and especially Carol.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kay's name to a charity of your choice.

The funeral will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from St. Michael's Orthodox Church, Jermyn, officiated by the Very Rev. John Kowalczyk.

The family will receive friends Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Battenberg Funeral Home, 363 Washington Ave., Jermyn. Parastas, 8. Transferral to church after parastas.
