Of Monroeville, PA passed peacefully on December 30, 2016. She was born on May 17 to the late James and Lucille Oliver (Maddox). Cathy began her broadcasting career in 1956 with WLOA, Braddock, and WEDO, McKeesport. In 1957 she joined WMCK, McKeesport as host of the "The Date with Cathy Show". She was the station's first female staff announcer and DJ, and during her ten years at WMCK, became the executive speechwriter and director of women's programming. In 1967, Cathy moved to WJAS Radio where she was a general assignment reporter until her move to WTAE-TV in 1969. During her 27-year career at WTAE, Cathy covered many news assignments and hosted "Black Chronicle" and co-hosted "Pittsburgh Dialogue" and "AM Pittsburgh". Cathy has been honored by more than 50 professional, community service and business awards including; "Businesswoman of the Year" Iota Phi Lambda, National Business and Professional Women's Society, Woman of the Year, and the Pittsburgh Black Guardians. Cathy's many awards include Golden Quill - series "Prison Grays"; American Women in Radio and TV; Broadcast Achievement Award; Renaissance Magazine - 25 Years of Broadcasting Excellence; LaRoche College - Woman of the Year in Broadcasting; The Champion Association - Broadcasting Excellence. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Carl Cain and Kenneth Maddox. She is survived by a sister, Dolores (Alex) Powell; brother, James (Jill) Maddox, and stepsister- in-law, Lettie Ann Jordan; sister-in-law, Hortense Maddox; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Family, friends and all who loved her are welcome at the ALFIERI FUNERAL HOME, 201 Marguerite Ave., Wilmerding, (412-824-4332) on Monday from 2-7 p.m. Home Going Celebration Tuesday at 10 a.m. in funeral home.
