Cathy E. Cella

An incredibly generous person who was the epitome of grace and kindness, Cathy Cella passed away January 25, 2022 surrounded by loved her ones. 

She led a life defined by a devotion to children; her own son and daughter, her nieces and nephews, and her greatest source of joy, her grandchildren. She had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel welcome, like they mattered, and were loved and accepted. 

Cathy was born and raised in Somerville, Ma., but was also a lifelong summer resident of Priscilla Beach, Plymouth. There by the ocean, on the beach, she surrounded herself and others with family, food, and love which exemplified her lifelong commitment to bringing people together. 

As the owner of Michael’s Palace hair salon in Somerville, for 30+ years, she and her “girls” cut hair in what was known to patrons as the “shop.” Her business was a source of both fulfillment and fun, where her talents excelled and she felt a deep sense of pride. 

Cathy was a Mom, a grandmother, a sister, a wife, a companion, a godmother, an aunt and an incredible friend to so many, to whom she was so important. Her legacy lives on in the lives of the people she loved, whose sense of loss is only matched by the deep sense of gratitude for everything she did for us. We love you, Cathy. 

Cathy was the beloved wife of the late Michael A. Cella II who passed away in 1986. She was the devoted mother of Michael A. Cella III and his wife Laura, Lindsey Haynes and her husband Naza. She was the loving grandmother of Michael A. Cella IV, Voilet Haynes and Nyla Haynes. The loving companion of 34 years to Vinny Vicente. The dear sister of Ida Bishop and her husband Donald. The cherished sister in-law of Michelle Cella and the late Deborah Federico and her surviving husband Daniel. She is lovingly survived by her nieces Gina and Rene Federico and her nephew and godson Jonathan Federico. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends. 

Funeral procession from the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Friday, January 28th at 9 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Ann Church 399 Medford St., Somerville at 10 AM. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
