Chad is also survived by his brothers Jeff and Randy. I am Jeff.
Chad was born Chad Clinton Calkins. His father insisted that his initials be the same as his favorite alcoholic drink. Chad was born into a loving family; all were excited to see him come home from the hospital. He was a bi-centennial baby! We were living in Rudd, Iowa at the time. When things got a little "out of control" with his father, Mom moved us kids to Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
While In Cedar Rapids, it was decided to change Chad's last name to ours, Reece, for a few of reasons: 1) to make a fresh start, 2) to make it easier to handle school paperwork and such, and 3) so Chad would know he was a member of the Reece family.
At one point, it was Mom, Chad, me, Randy, 2 cats, 2 or 3 dogs, 2 rabbits, 1 squirrel, and all other strays were welcome into the family as well! Haha. All living in a 2 bedroom house with a 7-stall garage...whew!
Chad and I were 10 years apart in age, so I would not say we were ever really close. But I do know what he looked like in a diaper (haha). While Mom was working to keep food on the table, the brothers took care of Chad. He was an adorable baby I must say. At one point we even had a dog that would lay under his bassinet and growl at anybody who came near; Chad's security detail. Sadly once the dog started growling at Mom, he had to go (the dog, not Chad).
There was a time, when Chad was very young, Mom was making costumes for Elvis impersonators. There was one particularly good impersonator named Liberty Mountain. After making his costume, she made an exact copy of it for Chad. Chad got to perform, on stage, with Liberty for 1 number. It was an adorable performance and Chad was not shy at all.
When Chad was entering the school system, I was on my way out. So other than going to see him in a few sporting events, we really did not interact much. He was into sports and video games and I was into music.
That being said, there was always love and respect and I think he knew deep down that if he ever needed anything, he could count on me. This was shown last year when he was taking a computer programming course and he needed help with some of the coding. He reached out to me and I helped him get through that class.
While in school, Chad met his first wife; who he has 2 kids with. They are great kids and he was always very proud of them.
Once Chad started his own life, we sort of lost touch. Yes, there were the occasional holidays and such where we all got together and broke bread, but we never really spoke other than that.
I moved to Florida 12 years ago. Once he moved to Florida, we sort of reconnected; not as much as I would have liked. My husband and I spent a Thanksgiving dinner with him. We had a wonderful time with Chad, Sarah and Dorian (and the dogs). He was very proud showing me their new house and his motorcycle (which I didn't even know he knew how to ride). I was hoping for more times like that, but sadly, that will not happen now.
Chad and Sarah were the only family members who were able to attend my wedding. That meant a lot to us. Everybody in the wedding party said nice things about him.
As brothers, he and I have not always seen eye-to-eye, but I have always loved and respected him; and I always will. I just wish there was more time to be able to get closer. I was counting on the fact that since he was younger than me, we had plenty of time for that.
Chad, I hope you are warm in the arms of Mom and Clover (her dog). Assuming Mom is partying with Elvis, I hope you get invited to the party. I'm glad that you are no longer in pain, but you will be missed.
P.S. Attached is a horrible picture of all 3 of us from 2013; outside of a steakhouse in Cedar Rapids

Rest in peace, Chad. I'm so glad that our last time together was a time of stories and laughter with your brothers. There is comfort in knowing that you are reunited with you mom. Thanks for always making me feel like a part of the family.

I met Chad in first grade in 1982. I am pretty sure my first ever overnight sleepover was at his Moms house. While we went different directions after high school, hell always be the Left Guard and 189 pounder. Cheers mate.

I am very saddened to hear that Chad is no longer with us, we went to high school together and even though I was 2 or 3 years ahead of him his personality and smiling nature was enough for him to be introduced into my life as a life long friend. I will miss you greatly and prayers to his family on getting through this very sad time. R.I.P

So sorry to hear about Chad. Chad was a great person and athlete. He played baseball with my son Marcus and Chad was one heck of a catcher. Also Chad and Marcus wrestled together in high school. Chad was a great person who had a heart for others. He was someone that meant a lot to so many people. He was a Prairie Hawk wrestler and he was one of my Kids that I looked out for during my days of roller skating at Skate Country. I had a great respect for Chad. RIP my friend and may God be with your loving family.
