CHARLES BEYER Obituary

Charles Beyer WWII soldier in two theaters, Greyhound Bus safety director Charles Beyer passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015, with his beloved daughter at his bedside, in West Orange, N.J. He was 90. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Temple Beth Ahm Yisrael, 60 Temple Drive, Springfield, N.J. Interment will take place at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, N.J. Arrangements are under the direction of Ross' Shalom Chapels, 415 Morris Ave., Springfield, N.J. 07081. Born and raised in Camden, N.J., Mr. Beyer lived in New York City, and made his home in Cherry Hill, N.J. with his wife, Paula, for over 40 years. He then resided on Long Island, N.Y., for two years before moving to West Orange in 2013. Before serving in the U.S. Army in World War II, he attended the Mastbaum University of Technology in Philadelphia, Pa.,, where he studied marine electrical engineering. While in the Army, Mr. Beyer served in the Ardennes, Central Europe, Northern France, the Rhineland, Normandy, and the Asiatic Pacific theater. He received a Distinguished Unit badge, a European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, an Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. Mr. Beyer also later served as a supervisor of an Army rest and recreation center, writing, directing, and producing shows and entertainments for the troops. After the war, he was a safety director at the Greyhound Bus Company, where he worked for over 40 years. He also repaired watches and jewelry. Mr. Beyer was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons of Cherry Hill. He was predeceased by his wife, Paula, in 2006, and is survived by his beloved daughter, Rabbi Cecelia Beyer, and devoted son-in-law, Gabe Rosenberg of Springfield, N.J.
