Charles Burrus Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 18, 2022.
Charles Eugene "Chuck" Burrus passed away Saturday, August 13, 2022, following a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by family and close friends at the time of his passing.

Chuck was born in Farmington, New Mexico, May 7, 1944. His family moved to Flagstaff, AZ and in 1951 to Sedona where he was raised. He remained in Arizona for the rest of his years, leaving only to proudly serve his country in the US Navy for 4 years.

From an early age Chuck was known as an outstanding athlete, excelling in swimming, basketball, track, tennis and golf. He graduated from Verde Valley School in Sedona as a member of the Class of 62', a connection he has maintained throughout his life. He briefly attended ASU before enlisting. After completing his service, Chuck enrolled at NAU, where he received a degree in Business Administration. He always wanted to work for himself and eventually formed Arizona Commercial Cleaning, serving Valley of the Sun businesses for over 40 years. During his stint in the Navy, he took up golf and developed a passion for the sport that stayed with him throughout his life. He won numerous golf tournaments and awards beginning with the Club Championship in Sedona at the Village of Oak Creek Country Club in 1972. Over several years he repeatedly tried to qualify for the senior tour and was invited to qualify for the Senior British Open in 2001.

Chuck is survived by his partner of 30 years, Ellen Ames, mother, Betty of Carefree, brother Bill of Tucson, as well as nephews, nieces, and stepchildren.

A Celebration of Life remembering Chuck will be held Sunday, October 9, 4:30pm at Papago Golf Course. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be directed to Verde Valley School in Sedona, Arizona.
