Charles "Charlie" Wilson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 2, 2022.

“Charlie” Charles Lawrence (age 78) of Framingham, MA died suddenly on Saturday April 16, 2022.

He was the son of Bennett Joshua Wilson and Marion (Rogers) Wilson of Boston, MA.

Born in Attleboro, MA, Charlie was raised and educated in Norfolk, MA. He attended King Philip Regional High School, obtained his GED, and joined the United States Marine Corps. He served with the Marines as a radio operator from August 1961 to May 1965, working on thirteen different ships and spending one year stationed in Okinawa. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Lance Corporal. After his discharge from the military, he worked on his parent’s farm and attended Bryant & Stratton in Boston, MA, earning his associates degree.

He married Carol Anne Harris in 1967 in Boston, MA. After residing in Gardner, MA for a few years, the couple eventually moved to Framingham, MA in 1973 where they raised their two children, Chuck, and Jessica. Charlie worked for over thirty years as a computer programmer at General Electric Corporation prior to his retirement in 2009.

Those who truly knew Charlie will remember his great capacity for love and his warm sense of humor. He had an immense passion for hard work as well as for tinkering in the basement with just about anything. He seemed to be able to do it all. He cooked extravagant meals, rebuilt cars, and sewed ballet costumes for his daughter. Charlie had a great appreciation for his cat, Pi, as well as for fishing, sailing, photography, and spending time near the ocean in Maine and Cape Cod.

Charlie is predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Carol Anne (Harris), of Framingham, MA; his daughter, Jessica Harris Wilson, and her husband, Kevin Alan Rudat, of West Boylston, MA; his son, Charles Lawrence Wilson Jr., of Gouldsboro, PA and his fiancée, Megan Carroll Leary, of Coopersburg PA; his daughter-in-law, Michele Mazak Wilson, of Clarks Summit, PA; his grandson, Zachary Charles Wilson; and his many siblings including Bennett Joshua Wilson Jr., Marion Louise Wilson Jr., Jeanne Marie Wilson, Harold Edward Wilson, and Daniel Gilbert Wilson as well as their spouses and children. Affectionately known as “Captain Charlie,” he is also survived by a multitude of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In keeping with Charlie’s wishes, a memorial luncheon will be held to celebrate his life in lieu of a funeral. The event will be held later this spring and will be open to friends and family members.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Hill Place (89 Bethany Road, Framingham, MA 01702), Bridge Over Troubled Waters (47 West Street, Boston, MA 02111), or Shriners Hospital (51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114).

Carol, Chuck and Jessica, I just learned of Charlie's passing. I am so sorry for your loss. Charlie is missed by all who knew him. He was a wonderful husband and father and friend. This picture was taken by Charlie about 40 years ago. He had a wonderful laugh and great sense of humor. I recently talked to him after many years. He is missed. Love to you all. ❤

Charlie was one of the first people to greet me when I moved to the neighborhood 10 years ago, and he was always ready for a quick, cheerful chat. He gave me great dog advice as I struggled with a new puppy--so helpful! I miss seeing him -- what a great guy! I send my sympathy to Carol and all the family.

Carol, My condolences on the loss of Charlie. Life is something that we all go through until we get to this point, and like they say, it is the memories we leave behind that make his passing that much easier. I remember living with Charlie at 393 Marlboro St back in 65 - 66. We shared a large studio, then one morning he told me that he was moving out. I had known about you, "Carol", for a while, but he finally said, Steve, it's you or her and you lost. But then he asked if I would be able to afford the rent without him, always worried about the other people. I'm happy you guys had such a great life and family. I was on the email list with some of his classmates.

There are no words for the legacy Uncle Charlie has left on our family. His shining personality will live on in our hearts. So many amazing memories with him. Our families were always together. It started in Gardner in the La Grassa apartment when I was young than 94 Spruce Street.
So many holidays spent there together, band concerts of Chuck's, Jessica's dance recitals, dogs, cats, bees, plants, tools, cars, boats etc. We spent time out at Uncle Charlie's parents farm and Gram & Gramps in Winchendon. He loved driving the tanks with Grampy, grading the back roads with the bulldozer and setting up the bee hives for Gram Harris. I loved going down & having the Captain's tour of the harbour with him at the helm of his cherished sail boat. Always made time over the years of seeing him & Aunt Carol when we came home every summer. My last fond memory was him and I preparing lobster rolls in the kitchen at 94 Spruce. It was a great day with many stories shared by all. Uncle Charlie was a man of integrity and will be missed. There is a quote that comes to mind when I think of him:
"The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively."

Growing up Uncle Charlie was so much fun. I always loved hearing about his latest interest (beekeeping and photography just to name a few). Always loved my trips to Framingham to see him and Aunt Carol. Those trips carried into adulthood. Mike and I always felt so welcomed. Mike is also grateful for the interest they took in his races. He will be missed.

As a childhood friend of Jessica’s, and a band mate of Chuck’s for years, I applaud Charlie for several important reasons. First (and selfishly), he and Carol choose the perfect first name for their daughter. Second, he fostered a love of the arts (music and dance). Finally, fostering and maintaining connections to others. Charlie taught others to give. A small great example of his giving was sewing a ballet outfit for his daughter. Another example is his extended military service. He shone through his family, choices and his wisdom. Charlie gave himself to all of us in many, innumerable ways.

I met Charlie when he join GEIS, a a Technical Representative. My role there was Administrator to both the Sales and Technical staff. My husband and I became good friends with Charlie and his family, through work and our social get-togethers. Our friendship continued until his sudden passing. We miss seeing you Charlie" and our friendship, but we have many wonderful memories of times together

Growing up, there were few people I enjoyed more than my Uncle Charlie. He was always ready with a smile, and kept me in stitches with his keen sense of humor. I'm deeply grateful for those memories, and for having known him.

As always, Captain Charlie...

My sympathies and love to Carol, Chuck and Jessica. Growing up, we lived across the street from Charlie and Carol. Charlie and my father were cut from the same cloth. Always tinkering and puttering in the basement..in the yard..or on a car. They would wander across the street to each other's homes; asking advice on a project; to borrow a tool or just curious as to what project they were working on. There aren't many childhood memories that don't have Charlie or Carol in them.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you who are mourning the loss of Charlie in their lives. My Mom always enjoyed the visits from Charlie and Carol through the years, and I was happy to be able to see them during those times. He accomplished a lot during his lifetime, though at the end of the day you, and your families are his greatest legacy Chuck and Jessica.
