Charles Davy Connolly Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 15, 2025.
Charles Davy Connolly died peacefully on May 11, 2025, at The Villa in Sinsinawa, Hazel Green, WI. A gathering will be held from 4 to 6 PM on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Furlong Funeral Chapel in Galena. Cremation rites have been accorded. Dave was born on February 19, 1942, in Detroit, MI, the son of Elizabeth and Edward Connolly. As a teenager, his family moved to Connecticut, where he joined a small jazz band, playing the vibes and marimbas. This experience sparked his lifelong love of music and led to enduring friendships. Dave graduated from the University of Connecticut. On September 19, 1964, he married Andrea Sweet in Darien, CT. Together, they moved to the Chicago area, where he worked for Rand McNally. He then worked for William C. Brown in Dubuque, IA. In the latter half of his life, he owned and operated Cover to Cover bookstore in Galena for ten years. Dave will always be remembered for his honesty, his dry sense of humor, love of music, and his continued perseverance through his physical adversities. He is survived by his wife, Andrea, his sons, Bruce, of Galena, and Michael (Heather) of Quincy; and six grandchildren: Hannah, Nathan, and Alyssa from Quincy; and Bruce Jr., Kevin, and Tyler from Joliet; his sister, Sherry Martel, of Waukee, IA. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Sarah Stratton, of MA; his brother-in-law, Barry Sweet, of NJ; and multiple nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, Bruce and Marian Sweet. The family extends special thanks to Dr. Jeffrey White and all the staff at the Villa. Memorial contributions may be made to The Villa at Sinsinawa in Hazel Green, WI in his memory. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.furlongfuneralchapel.com
