Charles Griffin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 27, 2022.
Charles W. Griffin went home to be with the Lord on July 11, 2022.

Charles, Grif, as he was know to many was born February 18, 1946, in Abington, Pa, to the late David Christopher, DeDe, and Beatrice Myrtle, Nana, (Shackelford) Griffin. His childhood years were spent in the Abington, Willow Grove area with his siblings Beatrice Yvonne and Joyce. He enjoyed a loving home and family. He came to know the Lord in his life through the years.

Charles at an early age loved sports, cars, and friends. He was always working 2 and even 3 jobs at a time. He drove a truck, worked for the post office, Eagleville Pharmacy and spent many years at Rohm and Haas, in Upper Dublin, Pa, as a lab technician.

As his tastes in the world developed, Charles grew to enjoy many sports and taking off to go to the US Open in New York each year. This leading him to open his own establishment, C Griffin for Strings, a full-service tennis pro shop. While being his own boss, Charles also lent his talents to Upper Dublin Racket Club, Germantown Cricket Club, Philadelphia Cricket Club, and the Arthur Ashe Club in Philadelphia.

Charles had a love of movies, crime shows, and even talked in movie lines from time to time. He had a core group of strength with Sam, Nate, Ike, Chester, and Reggie who supported him through his endeavors or just getting together for breakfast.

Anyone and everyone who knew Charles, knew he was always on the move no matter the time of day. In 2019, Charles was invaded by cancer and had to slow down. He had to become more careful and cautious as the days passed and Covid made things difficult. But Charles kept pushing as only the Griffin spirit knows to do. He had a strong constitution, and did what he wanted.

In his push as Charles being Charles, he worked even when not feeling his best. On Father's Day 2022, he enter Temple Hospital which became to be his final stop before transitioning to Glory. Family, especially his children, meant the world to him. He helped however he could, even trying to bridge gaps across states and years missed.

Charles, Grif, will be affectionately missed.

He is survived by his two sisters, Yvonne and Joyce, his oldest daughter, Tonia, (daughter Brendan, mother Sherrel), son, Charles (wife Sonia, daughter Faith (11/2/08), son Elijah), daughter Michelle (sons Aaron and Robert), daughter Brett (husband Stephen, daughters Kiara and Alicia) (mother Bernadette), daughter Casie (mother Sara) and son Sean (mother Tracie) and host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

May he rest in peace and the sovereignty of the Lord!
