Charles "Ken" Hanley

June 22, 2018 Ken Hanley, 89, passed peacefully in Roseville, CA. Also knows as, "Papa Hands" and "Big Ken," to the very end, he lived up to his reputation of being a friend to everyone he met, a consummate prankster, and maintaining his sharp wit and jovial mood. Ken leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 65 yrs, Dolores, whom he called "my Sweetie". son, Michael Hanley (Caryn), daughter, Susan Potter (Karl), and four grandchildren. Ken joined the Merchant Marines in his late teens and then entered the USMC in his early 20's, where he proudly served in the Korean War and remained a Marine until 1957 and branch transferred into the USAF. In the USMC, Ken was a Mess Sargent/Artilleryman and was stationed at Castle AFB, CA and Wiesbaden AFB in Germany; Offutt AFB in Nebraska and ended his career in 1968 at Beale AFB, CA where he worked on the SR71 Blackbird. He received many awards while serving in the Military, with the USAF Commendation Medal as his highest. Post military career, Ken went to work for the DOJ, CHP and BOE. Ken's passions were fishing, the 49ers and serving disabled veterans. He also spent years with the Coast Guard Auxiliary achieving the rank of Commander. Ken's memorial service is on Friday, June 29, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. at Lambert Funeral Home, 400 Douglas Blvd, in Roseville.
