He was predeceased by his parents, Verna Saunders Harwood and Ashton Travis Harwood; his beloved uncle, Otway Pearson Binns Harwood, all of Charles City, Va.; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ellen Leonard and Richard A. Omohundro of Goochland, Va.; his uncle and aunt, Thomas Fletcher Harwood and Lucille Watts Harwood of Lynchburg, Va.; his brother, Cary Pearson Harwood of Wytheville, Va.; and his cherished son, Richard Omohundro Harwood. He is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Omohundro Harwood; his sons, Otway Pearson Binns Harwood II of Goochland, Va. and Charles Douglas Harwood Jr. and daughter-in-law, Donna Jean, of Charles City, Va.; his brother, Ashton Travis Harwood Jr. and sister-in-law, Kaye, of New Kent, Va., and their children, Ashley T. Harwood and Ashton Travis Harwood III; his sister-in-law, Susan O. Harwood of Wytheville, Va.; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Doug was born at Binns Hall in Charles City, Va. in 1945.
