Charles Hatch Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 25, 2010.
BREWER and HERMON - Charles Ernest "Charlie" Hatch, 86, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died peacefully Nov. 24, 2010, with his family and a priest at his bedside at a Bangor hospital, after a short illness. He was born July 26, 1924, in South Brewer, the last surviving child of Harold W. and Margaret (McAuliffe) Hatch. Charlie attended Brewer schools and served in the U.S. Army National Guard during World War II, being stationed in the South Pacific and Okinawa. He was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for fishing. Charlie loved Christmas and one of his favorite traditions was playing Santa. For many, many years he would joyfully go from house to house of family and friends. For years Charlie worked for Eastern Fine Paper, Brewer. After the mill shut down, he worked for Robinson & Kenney Oil Co. until his retirement. He was an active member of Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church, serving as an usher, greeter and in the funeral ministry. Surviving, along with his wife of 63 years, Ethel (Moore) Hatch of Hermon, are two sons, Charles F. Hatch of Hermon and William E. Hatch and his wife, Linda, of Brewer; grandchildren, Aaron C. Hatch and his wife, Shannon, of Provo, Utah, Ryan M. Hatch and his wife, Kristen, of Plantation, Fla., and Scott S. Hatch and his wife, Erin, of Hermon; great-grandchildren, Auston Hatch, Italia Hatch and Chancey Hatch of Provo, Utah, and Olivia M. Hatch and Lauryn E. Hatch of Plantation, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father and mother; sisters, Margaret L. Godley and Helena V. Mathews; and brothers, George W. Hatch, Joseph "Mike" Hatch and Gregory J. Hatch. The family extends special thanks to Charlie's caregivers at Maine Veterans Home, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor, along with his nurses and doctors at Eastern Maine Medical Center, who provided exceptional compassion and care. Family and friends may visit 5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary's Church, 1768 Ohio St., Bangor, with the Rev. Timothy Nadeau officiating. A time of fellowship and refreshments will be immediately afterward at the church center. Burial with military honors will be 2 p.m. Monday at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, Maine Chapter, 51 U.S. Route 1, Suite M, Scarborough, ME, 04074, www.americanheart.org, or to a charity of one's choice.

We are saddened to hear of Charlie's passing and only regret that we were not able to get home for the past three years to spend time with him.

Charlie was a person who was always giving unselfishly to others. His cheerful personality, regardless of the situation is a memory that will always remain with us as well as our fishing trips and excursions.

Ethel, Charlie, Billy, and family, we are with you in spirit and share in your loss.

May you find strength in your faith and the fact that you have many friends and family surrounding you.
