Charles Marshall, Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 27, 2024.
Charles Stuart Marshall, Jr., affectionately known as "Chuck" and "Brud" to family and close friends, passed away on January 25, 2024, in Concord, New Hampshire. He was born on September 16, 1943, in Erie, Pennsylvania, to Charles S. Marshall, Sr., and Edith M. Marshall (Stone). Chuck was one of seven siblings that included brothers Alan and Robert, and sisters Ruth, Janet, Belle, and Christine.

Chuck graduated from Concord High School in Concord, New Hampshire, before joining the U.S. Army for several years in which he trained dogs and served overseas in Germany during the 1960s. He later embarked on a career in retail management with both Hills and Ames Department Stores, which led him across several states before returning to Concord and opening his own store, Chuck's Used Furniture & Flea Market.

As evidenced by the jukebox that he once owned and adored, Chuck loved music, especially country and rock-n-roll. He also enjoyed fishing, swimming, camping, and, for better or worse, being a straight-shooter who told it like (he thought) it was. Chuck was fond of many sayings, but one that he loved, and some say described him well, is a quote from Adam Grant:

"When you only listen to the smartest person in the room, you miss out on discovering what the rest of the room is smart about. Everyone you meet knows something you don't-- and has wisdom from experiences you haven't lived. Every conversation is a chance to learn something new."

While medical records say that Chuck died of acute coronary syndrome, his broken heart from the unexpected passing of his youngest child and son, Kenny, weeks before him may also be to blame.

Chuck is pre-deceased by his parents, brothers Alan and Robert, and sister Ruth. In addition to many nieces and nephews, he leaves behind his eldest child, Eric Marshall (Manchester, NH), daughter Valerie Marshall (Kalamazoo, MI) and her husband Houman Oliaei, two grandsons whom he adored, Hayden and Connor, granddaughter Lauren Nickerson, and four kitty-grandchildren, George, Elaine, Jerry, and Mr. Perterman.

As everyone deserves, we hope that Chuck's soul is finally at peace and reunited with Kenny and his brother Alan, whom he was especially close to, and his beloved parents and other loved ones in Heaven.

Chuck is buried at New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetary in Boscawen.
