Charles McLaughlin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 21, 2025.
Charles Gerard Woods McLaughlin, known fondly as Charlie, passed away on December 26, 2024, at the age of 92. Born on April 28, 1932, in Longriggend, Airdrie, Scotland, he spent his later years in Alamo, California.

Charles was a talented engineer whose career was marked by his passion for problem-solving and innovation. He had a knack for tinkering with cars and was always eager to understand how things worked, a hobby that brought him immense joy throughout his life. Charles was most proud of his invention - a vibrating platform which increased assembly line speed in the field of electronics manufacturing. In addition to his love for engineering, Charles found joy in flying and gardening, activities that allowed him to connect with the world around him. Charles's warmth, curiosity, and dedication to his craft will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara, who stood by his side through the many adventures life brought their way.

Charles is also survived by his 6 children, 14 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and extended family in Canada and Scotland.

My Dad -- the reason I am the man who I am today. His continuous love and encouragement, he was my biggest fan. Yes, I drove him up the wall many times. As a kid that was my job. He is my example, my goal. I hope to be half as wise as he was. I was so very lucky to have such a father, and I knew it too. As the oldest child I am blessed with additional memories and experiences from him. They will me, until I see him again. I love you Dad.

What a wonderful man who lived a life full of adventure, hard work, and inspiration. As the father of my forever friend Audrie, I hold dear our interactions and time shared. We honor you by planting a group of trees in your memory. Trees have such special symbolism, which you embody.

Grandpa M&M, your journey shaped all of ours. From the coal mines of Scotland to the decks of the Queen Mary, you carried a strength that built a legacy. Without your resilience, your willingness to forge ahead into the unknown, none of us would be here. You embodied endurance and determination, a testament to what it means to create a life through hard work and perseverance.

I´ll always remember what you told me. That we are thinkers, innovators, that everything we touch turns to gold. I am touched and carry those words with me, and I will honor them. Like you, I have the spirit of adventure, the courage to take risks, and the drive to forge my own path. Your journey inspires me daily to embrace life fully, with the same boldness that brought you here.

Legacy is more than what we leave behind-it is the fire we ignite in others. Through you, I have learned the power of resilience and the importance of carving our own way forward. I am honored to carry the torch, to continue the journey you began, and to uphold the values of strength and perseverance that defined you.

Your story lives on in all of us, in the paths you paved so that future generations could walk further. May your spirit sail on, as steady and unwavering as the journey that brought you here.

Sending you Love and you rest in God´s Hands.

so many of my favorite childhood memories included my grandpa and his great sense of humor and openness to sharing knowledge and experiences with me. Spending summers with him and creating fun traditions was so special and I am so grateful to have had these memories to cherish and to be reminded of whenever i think of him. Miss and love you grandpa

It was always the highlight of the summer as a kid driving up to Grandpa Charles' house to visit for a week. Many good memories were made there and I always loved to spend time with Grandpa. I remember the 'touch my hearing aid' gag that never got old, the famous 'banana boat' story, going for a ride with him in the Rolls, and braving the cold pool to dive for quarters. I cherish the time I had with Grandpa Charles, and he will be dearly missed. May he rest in the peace of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Daddio,

I´m sad to be saying goodbye but so blessed to have had you as my dear sweet daddy for 60 years. You were a solid, reliable source of good advice and an example of loyalty and hard work. I admired your ability to fix things, remember funny Scottish songs, and our inside jokes. I love you so much .
Your #1 daughter,
Sandra

I remember that as a young child I always wanted to touch grandpa´s mustache when he was holding me. He would pretend to go for a little chomp on my finger and I would always jump with excitement and smile. Thank you for being a funny, loving, and caring grandfather. I love you very much. Rest in Heaven.

My sweet Dad- I´ll miss you everyday. You loved me through gifts, hugs, words, support, and providing and I will remain grateful to you always. The world looks different without you in it and while I am so sad, I am going to celebrate you and all that you did in honor of your life, well lived. I love you Dad. Your little girl, Audie Audie.
