Charles Pappalardo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 13, 2015.
Charles Pappalardo, 79, died on Monday October 12, 2015 at North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset NY, surrounded by his adoring wife and children.

Born January 17, 1936 in Brooklyn NY, he was the son of Alfio and Margaret (Costa) Pappalardo. Charlie served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1959, and was a resident of Queens Village for nearly six decades, where he met and married his wife Thea on December 7, 1963. He was an advertising Print Production Manager, retiring from Lord Dentsu & Co. in 2001.

He is survived by his wife Thea; his children, Linda Pappalardo and Beth Ann Rose, Roy and Paula Pappalardo, Scott and Danielle Pappalardo, and Laura and Jonathan Jones; his brother-in-law Edwin Spahn, who he helped to raise as one of his own; his four grandchildren, Thomas and Jessica Pappalardo and Michael and Erin Jones; and his younger sister, Rose Whitson. He leaves behind his dog Molly, who will miss him dearly.
An animal lover, Charlie was particularly passionate about horses. He was a lifelong cowboy, from cradle to grave. An accomplished horseman, he went on cattle drives out West, rode in amateur rodeos, and owned a small dude ranch. He was supremely happy whenever on or near a horse; but he was happiest when he was with his family.
Charlie was adored by his all who knew him. They will miss his easy smile, his wonderful laugh, his great sense of humor, his gentle nature and sincerity. There will never be another quite like him.
"So now you're free from that stupid old hospital bed; back in the saddle again, riding the wind, chasing shooting stars and lassoing the clouds. Happy Trails, Dad; until we meet again…"

Thea, to say "I'm sorry for your loss" just doesn't seem adequate. Charlie was such an awesome man, he was the brother I never had. Kind, gentle, caring - one of a kind. He will be missed by so many.

A unique man.

The original Urban Cowboy on the outskirts of Hollis Queens.

Growing up in Jamaica Queens: I always though that Roy's Dad was born 50 years too late and in the wrong location! He loved the old West, Horses and admired the rustic Cowboy way of life!

As one of Roy's closest childhood friends,I had the honor of being included in so many of the Pappalardo family holidays, celebrations, gatherings and outings.
I admire the positive + genuine relationships the family has with one another and I was always proud to be considered a fringe family member.

Years ago - As our small group of scrappy kids hung out often after school,
Mr. Pappalardo would get off the bus from work, walk the short block to join our antics and was always curious about our conversation.
With a chuckle he would warn us to stay out of trouble with before he headed inside the house.

He was always gracious. Always with a smile. I thank you for so many fond memories and being a huge part of my childhood.

I'm glad my wife and children knew you and our families continue to be lifelong friends.

I will miss you Mr.Pappalardo!

My heart breaks with every thought of you and Charlie, I had the pleasure of talking to him on the phone while in New Braunfels, I will never forget that, and there won't be a day that goes by that I won't think of you guys. May your Cowboy rest in Peace and may you find the strength to go forward.
