Speck, Charles Everett, Jr. 5/23/1924 - 5/4/2021 Jackson Charles Everett Speck, Jr. "Everett", died peacefully on May 4, 2021 at the age of 96. He was born May 23, 1924 in Mattoon, IL, the second child of Charles and Lola (Gast) Speck. He graduated from Humboldt High School in Humboldt, IL in 1942, after which he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Army Air Corps in the India-Burma Theater until the end of World War II. He received an Honorable Discharge at the end of the war and upon his return to Illinois, he married his childhood sweetheart, Alice Starwalt on October 10, 1947. They moved to Jackson with their two sons in 1966. Everett was a long-time member of Cornerstone Christian Church in Jackson. Everett spent most of his working life in the bakery business, starting by driving a bread route for Sally Ann Bakery in Mattoon and retiring from Way Baking Company in Jackson. Most of his career he was in sales, which suited his outgoing personality to a tee. He never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him. He was an avid Michigan State Spartans and Detroit Tigers fan, watching games and keeping up with all the details. Everett was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Kathryn, and his wife Alice. He is survived by his sons Willard (Jane) of Jackson and Jeffrey (Jeri) of Canton, GA, three grandchildren, Joshua (Hannah) of Acworth, GA, Justin (Denise) of Austell, GA and Janelle of Acworth, GA; two great-grandchildren, Everett and Jillian; his sister-in-law Mary Grooms of Sullivan, IL and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Charles Everett Speck, Jr., will be held at Roseland Memorial Gardens, on Saturday, May 8th beginning at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Michael Mason and Pastor Devin Robertson officiating.
