On November 25th Dale passed away peacefully. Dale was born on June 8, 1940 in Billings, Montana to Charles Trumbo and Dolly Trumbo Hillman.
As a high school student Dale won the Northwest AAU Golden Gloves title and the Intermountain AAU title earning him an athletic scholarship to Idaho State University in 1958. After graduating from college he started Idaho's first work program for the mentally handicapped and served on the Mayor's committee to hire mentally handicapped youth. He was presented with the Distinguished Service Award for community service by the ISU Athletic Association. Dale was also one of the original founders of the Special Olympics and was a member of the executive board.
After he and his family moved to Boise in 1969 he worked with the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation. Dale continued working with youth in boxing and for 20 years served as the President of the Idaho Golden Gloves. He later earned the ISU Sports Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement award. In 2015 Dale was inducted to the Idaho Golden Gloves Hall of Fame.
John Evans, Idaho's governor appointed Dale the State Athletic Director, a volunteer position he held for 21 years. Dale was honored to receive the Portrait of a Distinguished Citizen Award in 1978. During this time Dale worked as an Allstate insurance agent.
Dale is preceded in death by his son, Thomas, and his parents. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Glenda, his son Timothy (Kara) Trumbo, his daughter, Tracy (Scott) Van Ocker, and his granddaughters Sydney, Kylie and Ali Trumbo, Paige and Demi Van Ocker, and great grand twins Ayden and Addison. He is also survived by his sisters and a brother.
There will be a celebration of Dale's Life on December 28, at 3 p.m. held at West Ada Training Center Auditorium, 1303 E Central Dr., Meridian, ID.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Dale Trumbo Scholarship Fund, ISU Department of Athletics, C/O Tyson Munns, 921 South 8th Ave Stop 8173, Pocatello, ID 83209

I am not sure what year I met your parents but it must have been early 70's. They were wonderful neighbors. We send our condolences to Glenda and all the Trumbo Family. Love Terri Waklee
