Charlotte Jones Cabaniss Robertson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 6, 2025.
Charlotte Virginia Jones Cabaniss Robertson, 74, of Bay Minette, AL, died May 9, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at her daughter's home.

She was born on April 13, 1951, and was adopted by Sally and Lonnie Jones. Once her younger brother, Larry was born their family was complete. Charlotte had a charmed childhood complete with a pet raccoon, beginning lifelong friendships, and shrimping and crabbing on Little Lagoon.

Charlotte attended Huntington College studying English Literature until transferring to Auburn University to complete her degree in Secondary Education and Library Sciences. In 1971, she married her high school sweetheart, Tom. They welcomed three children, Lauren, Amanda and Will. Life took them to Rogers, Arkansas where Charlotte was an English teacher and Yearbook sponsor at Elmwood Junior High. These years were filled with youth sporting events, a house full of animals, and their children's friends.

After moving home to Bay Minette, Charlotte served as the Director of Library Services where she procured grants to bring internet access to its patrons as well as document the local history through digitizing newspaper archives and facilitating the documentation of oral histories by high school students. Charlotte was an integral part of establishing the North Baldwin Literacy Council to empower Baldwin County's citizens through literacy.

Later in life Charlotte met and married Brewster Robertson after he was an author featured at the Alabama Athenaeum writers' series. She and Brewster had many adventures hosting writing symposiums and travelling all over the country. Stonington, Maine and Key West, Florida were two of their favorite places. Eventually the desire to be near family and grandchildren brought Charlotte back to Alabama. Charlotte doted on grandchildren creating and continuing family traditions that will last for generations to come.

Charlotte's family and friends were the highlights of her life. She sought connections will the people she encountered. Her numerous Facebook accounts were how she stayed in touch with those who were special to her. Many of us probably have notifications from her still awaiting a response.

Charlotte is survived by her children, Lauren Cabaniss, Will Cabaniss (Lisa Barter Cabaniss), and Amanda Thomas, her grandchildren Madeline Sellers (Alex Zalazar), Charlotte Thomas, Ava Cabaniss, Hunter Thomas, and Witt Cabaniss. She is survived by her children's father, Tom Cabaniss (Nita Cabaniss), grandchildren's father JT Thomas and her former in-laws. She is also survived by her brother Larry Jones (Faith Jones) and her nieces and nephews Luke, Jessica, John, Virginia, and Sam. Charlotte is also survived by Brewster's sons, Kerry, Kenton, and Kelly Robertson. She was so fortunate to have friends and caregivers who were her chosen sisters by her side in her final years.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Laurens W. and Sally R. Jones and her second husband Brewster Milton Robertson and his son K.R. Robertson.

Please come celebrate Charlotte's life and legacy with us at Bay Minette Public Library on Sunday, June 8, 2025 (2:00-4:00pm).
