I seemed to miss you more every day. I just expect to answer the phone when it rings and find you calling. Cheryl you could light up a room with your sweet spirit., and that spirit is missed. Karolyn and Cathy are taking me to lunch today for my birthday and that 4th seat will leave a void. I also want you to know you were so missed at my birthday party. You would have laughed until you cried at all the stories about me in my wilder, younger youth but then you would have said "I'm not surprise she's still wild in her old age. You are special. Cathy said she saw a butterfly fly by the day you died so now when I see a butterfly I will always think of you. Love and miss you, Fran

You were taken from so many of us too many years too soon, Cheryl. What you've given in your lifetime is more than most of us can ever give. Your poetry expresses so much of who you are & how much love you have for others. To know you is a treasure. The beautiful memories you've given, especially to your Rex, are SO extraordinary. To know you is to love you, Cheryl. We were so blessed having you.............now Heaven is.
With heartfelt love for you & your family,

Friendships are something that you have to work at. They don"t just happen or last if you don't. I'm so glad we took the time and knew the importance and the rewards that it would bring us. I wish I had known the depth of your heart where all your beautiful writings came from. Please write one for me now wherever you are.

Dear Cheryl,
There is a void in our hearts since you passed. The memories of good times have helped ease the pain of losing a good friend. Friends having lunch, shopping and maybe a glass of wine to complete the day. Where ever I go, I will stop and say we miss you Cheryl.

Some people are wise
Some people are foolish
Many people live for life
Others merely exist
And more are sad
Some are optimistic
Some are pessimistic
Some people are lucky
Some people are unfortunate
Some people have beauty
And then a few have wealth
Most experience pain
Others will only have health
Others are happy
A few are honest
Others are perfidious
Some are creative
Others are untalented
Some people have no religion
Yet many more believe in God
Most get married
Others never share the joy
But all I can say is that you are
all of these and if my life was to
be condensed into one moment,
one experience, one true spark of life,
all I ask is that it be of you

Our beautiful Cheryl,
We will never forget what a thoughtful, caring, and loving woman you were. You have always been an absolutely amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. We are all so very thankful that we were able to share in your life and your light for the time that we did.

Cheryl,
It is with such sadness that we write this note now that you have left us.
However, with such appreciation for all the wonderful memories you have given us to remember always. I will never forget our journey from our first meeting years ago as neighbors on Oak Hill and the amazing times we shared over a glass of wine, a hilarious laugh, a pleasant conversation, an amazing dinner, wine tasting adventures, a memorable vacation, an afternoon Octoberfest, a construction project, a get together with friends, a ballgame, shopping trip, or theatre performance, and yes, several demolition projects creating outrageous messes and uncontrollable belly laughs.
You and Rex have added such color to our lives that can never be taken away.
The memory of your great smile, welcoming arms, and amazing personality will always be with us. We love you and will miss you terribly. It is inconceivable the sorrow Rex and Chad must now deal with. We know that the love and memories you shared with each other will make the journey easier to bear. There is no doubt that somewhere in the great beyond you are making preparations for a much greater journey than the one left behind.
We love and miss you.

Dearest Cheryl,
I write this note because I will miss you. I will miss swapping recipes and sharing cuttings of plants from our gardens, you called them "Friendship Plants".
Halloweens will always remind me of you and the goofy times we had racing to the door to check out our little costumed visitors - we Oohed and Aahhed. I need to mention the blinking lights that were remembered by trick or treaters for years - thanks Rex.
You and Rex were so wonderful in helping us move to our new home. Both of you tackled the kitchen - lined our shelves and organized our cabinets...And then there's the Tupperware. Frowning at the site of my ancient miss-matched Tupperware, you suggested I toss them all out. Well, every time I see the ancient collection in my kitchen I have thought of you with a smile.
A vineyard is what you wanted for Steve. You said, when you win the lottery you would buy him one.
There was a wonderful gift waiting for me in the form of a telephone message in March. You called to tell me "You loved me". Thank you.
Cheryl, you have enriched my life. We had laughter, serious talks, tears and cheers. God hold you tight.
Your Friend Always,
Irene

When two people say their marriage vows,
It's such a magic day,
A day that's bright and beautiful
for them in every way,
A day that brings the wonder
of a special dream come true,
A day when every future day
looks lovely to them, too
And if throughout their married life
they have each other there
To turn to and confide in,
and to give and help and share,
Then every day for them
will have a magic of its own,
The magic warmth of knowing
they have somehow learned and grown,
And the magic of believing
that just being close together
Is all they need to make their days
seem beautiful forever.

We have now spent
the 4 colorful seasons
together. We have experienced
the warm, the quiet of summer,
the cold of winter, the beauty of
flowers blooming, birds singing
that brings spring on its way,
and the windy season, fall.
Without you these months would
have no meaning, no beauty.

Through the memories of my mind I see
the reflections of life clearly. A young child
has yet to learn of love and hate. They wonder
about red balloons, swings and puppy dogs.
Soon they will grow to know war and fear. Oh
how the shadow of hate casts it ugliness on love.

Sometimes when I am very happy with life my hidden
beauty will become very radiant. People see me and say,
“how his love becomes her”.
Take for instance when you are with the one you love,
and there is a special feeling that enters both. She somehow
becomes so very lovely. She looks the same as she always does,
but then again she beams with a certain fulfillment of life.
Maybe later she becomes sad, she suddenly seems empty,
lost, and maybe a little sullen.
Beauty has always been in the eye of the beholder. If I am
beautiful to you, it is because I am with you; and I am
what you have made me.

Questions
Why don't you wear your wedding band,
cause it won't fit on your hand?
We can have it fixed and so
you can wear it when you go
It's very much a part of us
that's why I make such a fuss
It really means a lot to me
won't you listen to my plea
If you love me as I do you
you'll wear yours, like mine, I do
Please, put it on, and keep it there
so we can once again be a pair
At least, consider it, seriously
like I said, “It means a lot to me”
Waiting for an answer

Have you ever wondered how our love is like the
rain. The rain drops move very slowly down the
window in search for another to become as one.
Some move to fast they find no one or they pick
up many; soon they reach the end of their life span
without happiness or gain. At the top you see a
drop moving very slowly, he sees a companion,
she also in moving slowly. They find each
other, like each other, and decide to become one.
They go through their life together and when the
journey has ended they have no regrets as they
were happy. A rain drops life may seem very short,
but life is short when you are content. Our love is
the same way. We must search for love and treat it
gently for there is nothing more rewarding. Like
the rain; we will search for that one special drip.

Words cannot express the depth of sadness upon losing a life-long friend. Cheryl and I were like sisters, sharing life's joys and sorrows and the frustrations of raising teen-agers.
She was funny, creative, thoughtful, up on the latest fashion trend and make-up. But most importantly, deeply devoted to and in love with her "cabana boy", Rexy Poo.
Who could forget our last minute New Years Eve trip to the Rose Bowl when Cheryl showed up with her pants on inside out.
We would get together to go for a walk but somehow instead ended up having wine, sometimes a special bottle Rex had been saving. But as we know each day is special! Right Cheryl?
She never forgot a birthday or anniversary and gifts she gave were wrapped with as much care as was taken in choosing the gift inside.
You've taught us not to take life for granted, not to take friendships for granted.
Friends forever and ever ~ Cathy

NEVER TO KNOW THAT'S WHERE
THEY WOULD STAY
THEY DID NOT KNOW 'TIL IT

WHAT WAS GOING TO BE

THEY LOOKED TO THIS JOURNEY
WITH KNOWLEDGE AND LEARNING
IN A FEW SHORT SECONDS,
THEIR DESTINY BURNING
THEY WILL BE REMEMBERED
AND WE WILL UNDERSTAND
WE MUST GIVE OF OURSELVES

The years went by, not better but worse
She started to write poetry, sing songs, read verse
What to do everyone said
Nothing else works but her head
It might have come from Brownie or Scout
To find life happy, to learn what is out
That couldn't be it they taught what's right
Not to act silly both day and night
Now she has turned twenty one
Will she change or will she run
As long as a smile come from friend or foe

We were blessed with a son
A strong healthy baby boy
filled our hearts with love and joy
Chad Christopher was to be his name
Not Todd not Troy they weren't the same
He's grown so fast and now he's two
Still he cannot tie his shoe
He walks he talks he's learned to jump
And like other boys he's full of bumps
I can't but wonder what will he be
What he will do what he will see

Cheryl - Musing #2
Written to her parents (Coy & Alice) on their 37th Wedding Anniversary in 1975:
two is a lovely number
two is better than one
two is loving each other
two is one and one
two is a walk in the sunshine
two is holding hands
two is giving and taking
two is a wedding band
two is being together
two is children fare
two is growing together
two means that you care
May you two always have a full and rich life together

Many of you know about Cheryl's note writing and attention to detail, whether it be a past event or a future event, a birthday, an anniversary or just a note about something we did or she did with family and friends, she recorded on her calendar. She always believed in writing a note or saying something personal in all of her written communications, not just signing her name. For the 45+ years that Cheryl and I were together (dating and married) she wrote poetry, quotes, and thoughts about what was on her mind and read and wrote down verse that was important to her and that she wanted to remember. I will include many of Cheryl's musings as individual guest book entries, so she can share them with you.
Love my Toots -- Rex
Here's Cheryl's favorite toast:
“Wine inspires us, and fires us, with courage, love and joy”
