After graduating from Wicomico Senior High School in 1964, she went to The Salvation Army Officers Training College and then dedicated the early part of her life to being an Officer at various locations within The Salvation Army. During that time, she met her first husband, John Sellers, and they had four children together. She married Daniel Thomas October,10th 1996. Together they were active Salvation Army members who lead praise and worship at the corps. Their love for each other was strong and deep and committed to God's grace. On the day of their wedding they made a promise to each other that, no matter what had happened that day they would never close their eyes in sleep without kissing each other goodnight. A promise they both honored until Cheryl's last breath.

Cheryl was well known in Salisbury for her community participation with her work with seniors. She was a breast cancer survivor in 2000 and 2001. She received a life saving double lung transplant in December, 2011. She dedicated her entire life to Jesus Christ. She often referred to her life journey as "the race", quoting the Apostle Paul. "However I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me - the task of testifying to the Gospel of God's grace" (Acts 20:24).

She believed that people could conquer anything through God's grace and mercy. "I am excited because I have a job on earth and I will make a difference, not because of Cheryl but because of Jesus. The Salvation Army is very precious to me but God means more to me. He and I will make a difference." - excerpted from an interview with the Manna, a Christian newspaper in Maryland.

There will be a celebration of her life on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at The Salvation Army Corps. located at 407 Oak St. Salisbury, Maryland, at 3:00 pm followed by fellowship and refreshments

What a wonderful person. I simply adored Cheryl. That southern draw and that beautiful spirit made her so special. I'll bet that she is teaching someone a line dance right now.

To the siblings of Cheryl, and to her husband, children and grand children I send much sympathy, love and prayers. As a teenager I was blessed to be friends with the siblings. Cheryl, Debbie and I went to hymn sings and working the red kettles we would occasionally sing Silver Bells in which years later when hearing this song always brought my thoughts to Cheryl and Debbie. Anna I'm glad you got my cornet. Johnny I'm glad you are there for the girls. Cheryl is now in a better place no more pain. When we all get to Heaven is the goal. God bless you all.
