Chick Whistler Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 6, 2012.
Chick was called to heaven by our lord on Friday May 4, 2012 in Flouwer Mound, TX with his two sons by his side. He was born on February 12, 1947 in Ft Worth, TX. Chick was a retired successful business man in the Dallas area who loved to play golf, hunt, and watch his Texas Rangers. He attended Corsicana High School where he helped his football team to an undefeated season resulting in a State Championship in 1963. He later went on to play football Northeast Louisiana until he left there to join the forces of our U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. His greatest accomplishment, however, was meeting and marrying his soul mate Lynda and proudly raising his family in Carrollton, TX for many decades.

Chick was preceded in death by his father John Derald Whistler of Brownsboro, TX, his brother James Clifton Whistler of Plano, TX, and beloved wife Lynda Jean Whistler of Carrollton, TX. He was also preceded by a brother-in-law, Mike Jones and a sister-in-law, Gwen Swinney. Chick is survived by his loving sons, Wade Whistler of Lantana, TX and Colby Whistler of Carrollton, TX. Daughter-in-law Courtney Whistler, grandson Owen Whistler and granddaughter Lyndey Whistler. Mother Othell Inman Hunt, half sisters Tammy Smith and Lisa Collom, and numerous other close family and friends.

Viewing will be held on Monday May 7, 2012 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm and the funeral services will be Tuesday May 8, 2012 at 11:00 am. Both the viewing and the funeral will be held at Rhoton Funeral Home in Carrollton, TX. Burial to follow funeral service in Carrollton. Friends and family will be invited to join in celebration of Chick's life at the home of his son and daughter-in-law Wade and Courtney Whistler in Lantana, TX.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Chick was my son's little league coach way back in the late 80s early 90s. He taught my son how to properly throw a baseball. My son became a really good ball player. He's 29 now. Thank you and may God rest your soul.

I will always remember how kind Chick was to me, even though I was only a little sister from the baseball team in the 80s. :) He always had a smile on his face! I know he is at peace in Heaven now, still smiling. His family is in our prayers. Love, Lori (Johnson) Cota-Lance's sister

Colby I was so sorry to hear about your dad. Gregory loved going to your house all the years he had known you because your parents were always very nice to him. If Greg was here he would have been by your side as long as you needed him. I'm here if you need to talk.

GOD bless you Chick. What great memories of you I have. To his family Chick was one of the best people I knew in school. I know he left the world a better place because of him. He will be a great addition to heaven.

Colby and Wade, I'm so sorry to hear about your father. Chick had such a positive impact on my life by coaching us in Little League through the years. I still remember his intensity on those days we had practice after a rare loss. That taught me about dusting yourself off and working harder when you get knocked down. He left the world behind a better place. My condolences.

Among many things I remember, I recall Chick hurrying down the halls of CHS. He all ways had a moment to say hello and visit. He was so well liked and respected. His friends at CHS will miss him. Our class reunions won't be the same. God rest his soul and my sympathy to his family. Martha Long Tally, Flower Mound, Texas

Barbara and I were saddened with the news of Chick's passing. We fondly remember his coaching of our son, Lance, in Little League.
We now have an 8 year old grandson, who is a shortstop. Everytime I tell him...skirt in the dirt...I remember Chick telling Lance the very same thing those many years ago.
I wish our grandson could have met Chick. He would have been the better for it...on and off the field.
Rest in peace my friend.

To me Chick was larger than life - his charisma, his infectious laugh, his athletic prowess, and all those legendary stories his brother (my father) told me about him. He was the kind of uncle everyone wishes they had. He was my hero.

"But to have a friend, and to be true under any and all trials, is the mark of a man!" Chick was quite a man by many standards, and especially by the mark of his friendship to so many. We will miss him.

I was truly blessed to be Chick's stepmom for thirty years! I have never known a more gentle or caring soul. My sorrow is lessened by knowing that John, James and his beloved Lynda had him wrapped in their arms the second that Wade and Colby let him go. I cannot wait to hug him again.

Chick was such a special person, one of my favorite classmates in school. Even though he was the football hero that he certainly was he never failed to have a smile and greeting for everyone. He will always be a special "Tiger".

While we earthly beings mourn the loss of our dear friend Chick, we rejoice in the joy of knowing that he and Lynda are together again in a life everlasting. They created a loving family and a loving group of eternal friends that will one day join them again and embrace the everlasting friendships they helped us all form. We miss them both every day and cherish the memories of the wonderful life we shared with them.and those wonderful boys: Wade and Colby, now blessed to have Courtney, Owen, and Lyndie joining this wonderfuly family of good friends. The circle is growing, bless you all. Love you forever,

There are no words I can say to ease your pain but I wish there were. All I can say is the love that eminates through this entire family transcends this world. Chick will be forever missed. He was one of the nicest people I've ever had the great pleasure to know. My only solace is to know Linda will now be joined by her great love. And together they will watch over and love you as they always have. Love William and Veronica DiBella
