Gary Christopher Jenkins, born in Ardmore, OK on December 7, 1950, passed away in Raton, New Mexico on April 24, 2024 at 73 years of age.

Chris (as he was known by family and friends) lived his life by a remarkable standard of integrity. Known for his unwavering commitment to doing what was right, his thoughtful decision-making, and his role as a trusted advisor to many, he left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Calm, cool, and collected, he commanded respect through his kindness, generosity, and thoughtfulness. Though often described as quiet, Chris possessed a keen ability to read a room and engage in meaningful conversations, forging personal connections with those he encountered. He had a genuine interest in people's families, allowing others the opportunity to share in the pride he felt for his own loved ones.

As a young man, Chris worked as a caddy at the Broadmoor Golf Course in Colorado Springs, where he earned the prestigious Evans Scholarship to attend the University of Colorado. It was during his college years that he discovered his passion for the great outdoors. He embarked on countless backpacking adventures with his friends; sometimes more prepared than others for the elements of Mother Nature! It was a "Learn as you go" mentality, yet in no time Chris had conquered every 14'er in Colorado and many others throughout the Western United States. Descending into the depths of the Grand Canyon was a feat that Chris enjoyed on multiple occasions with various hiking companions. He craved the solace and reflection of being in a place with such magnitude and significance. You'd never find Chris on a packed trail during peak season; no, his true state of peace was hiking on a stunning fall day with no distractions, no chatter, just he and the path before him. Chris loved sharing his outdoor adventure stories and memories around the fire pit in the backyard to the delight of his grandchildren and friends.

A voracious reader and lifelong learner, Chris could often be found at a local coffee shop, engrossed in a book and savoring an americano. His intellect was unparalleled, and he delighted in sharing his knowledge and engaging in meaningful discussions on a wide range of topics. His grandchildren affectionately referred to him as "Papee," recognizing him as a walking encyclopedia and a source of endless wisdom.

In addition to his passion for history and literature, Chris discovered a talent for woodworking later in life. What began as crafting cutting boards for his family evolved into creating exquisite pieces of furniture: beds, armoires, gentleman's chest, tables, and even a cradle crafted to welcome his grandchildren to this world. His furniture and craftsmanship symbolize his legendary influence on the people he loved: Strong. Precise. Beautiful. Unique.

Chris devoted himself to establishing a thriving business, JC Golf Accessories, in the Rocky Mountain Region alongside his brother, Greg Jenkins. Revered as a "legend" within the golf community, Chris' unwavering commitment to integrity and cultivating personal relationships made an indelible mark on all who knew him. Chris and Greg built an incredible business for over 45 years.

To say Chris was proud of the family he and Shirley created would be far too insignificant of a statement. His family was undeniably paramount to Chris. Shirley was the love of his life. They met in 1980 and instantly knew they had a soul connection. Married in March of 1982, and soon after they embarked on his greatest adventure yet, raising a family. They were a perfect team, the epitome of a Yin and Yang connection creating an environment of balance and stability. As their little family evolved and his role expanded to "Papee", his heart grew even bigger. The joy that his grandkids brought to his life is unparalleled. Every opportunity he had to talk with clients and friends he would gush over his grandchildren and their newest adventures and accomplishments. As a father and a Papee, Chris attended countless volleyball matches, Became an excellent horse-hauler and stall cleaner, and spent hours building exquisite LEGOs sets. Despite his avid avoidance of dancing, Chris was even willing to dress up for the Father-Daughter Sock-Hop when his girls were young. His unwavering support and love for his family was known and felt by all who knew him.

Chris is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Jenkins; his daughters Katie and Danni; his grandchildren Addison, Cooper, Quincee, and Oaklee; sister Donna Heslop and her family: Chris Heslop, Ashley and Cory Hoseli; his niece Shara Elliott and her daughter Olivia Elliott; and his Sister-in-Law Ann Jenkins.

A Celebration of Life for Chris will be held on July 27, 2024, details will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Evans Scholarship Program.

Chris was always a gentleman and such a patience person when the YaYa's were coming over for a night of fun and talking. We would tell stories, even Pamper Chef parties he would be there having fun with us. Chris will be forever remembered as a wonderful human being to all. Love Pam & Blair

I have had the pleasure of working with Chris after our first encounter at the PGA Show in Orlando. For many years Chris and JC Golf have been and are a trusted and great performing distributor of our products. Since our first meeting our yearly meeting at the PGA show has always been something to look out for. Besides business the conversations were always full of family, travel plans, and hobby related stories. It was great knowing Chris. Bart Fokke/Pitchfix

So sorry to hear this news. I knew Chris's dad, Bart very well, and though Chris was not as flamboyant as Bart, he had a quiet strength and intellect that really impressed me. My sympathies to his family.

I first meet Chris in 2004 at Maroon Creek club. I walked into the van with all of the Golf accessories. We proceeded to talk for almost 2 hours about family, places and friends. Chris had a great smile and way of connecting with people. RIP my friend and condolences to the Jenkins family.

I was an Evan Scholar in Boulder with Chris in the mid-70's. We played on the same intermural basketball team, and he was a brutal power forward! JC provided many of our core golf accessory products for my 37 years in the golf industry. I never heard Chris say a bad word about anyone. He will be missed!

I was at Cheyenne Mountain High School with Chris. We played football and basketball together and shared many of the same classes. Chris was a friend, a great athlete, and a terrific student. Very sorry to hear about his passing.

Chris was a good friend, but mostly a mentor. He taught me how to drive a semi truck, and from watching him I learned to study more, eat better, and work harder. I´m not alone as I know many of my Evans Scholars buddies took the same lessons. RIP, Smokey.

Chris and Greg, my husband, were brothers who had a loving relationship and created and grew a golf business that they were so proud of! Both had lovely manners thanks to their mother Mary Helen. I feel so lucky to have been a part of the Jenkins family.
