Christina Salas Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 15, 2024.
Christina passed away peacefully in the home of her loving Granddaughter Jennifer McKendrick on 01/08/2024. She is preceded in death by her Father George Polychronis, Mother Virginia Papailiou Polychronis, Husband Isaac Salas, Daughter Debra Wilson, Son Christopher (Chris) Salas, Granddaughter Nicollette Salas and Grandson Brock Williams. She was survived by Daughter Pamela Salas, Daughter Cynthia (Cindy) Brundage, Daughter Virginia (Gina) McKendrick, Son Derek Salas, 8 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren plus 2 more little ones on the way.

Being a strong Greek woman, Christina could be a handful, difficult and a bit cantankerous at times, but she was also vivacious, spunky, and full of pizazz. She enjoyed working in her beautiful yard, traveling, watching football, spoiling her pets at their grooming appointments, cooking, camping, and collecting her treasures. She enjoyed the good times spent with her children, hosting family get-togethers and telling her life's stories. Christina was involved in her grandchildren's lives and was well known as the fun grandma and the #1 Cheerleader at all the grandkids' football, softball, basketball games and all other activities they were involved in. You could count on her to be in the stands with her wooden spoons banging on her pots and pans, making sure we got an ample amount of candy at the Murray parade and the crazy neon shirts at the yearly Lagoon trips. Christina, like the rest of us, was not perfect but did the best she could to make sure her family's needs and wants were taken care of even if that meant sacrificing something for herself. We're going to miss the love in her eyes and the feeling from her heart every time she looked at us and said "S' agapo paidi mou, puso puso puso" and all the Bravo paidi mou's too. We're going to miss her jokes, sarcasm, life lessons, singing, dancing, authentic Greek food and yes, even her sass. We're going to miss all the good times we shared together. May all the beautiful memories live on.

S' Agapo Mom, Grandmama Oopa, Yiayia and friend.

A private family viewing and Christina's blessing will be held 01/19/2024 then her Celebration of Life will take place late spring or early summer. If you would like updates to attend the Celebration, please email her granddaughter Christina at [email protected].

Ok so now that I figured it out on my cellular device ! Sheesh... Christina was my beautiful mom...I was always her " right hand man " she would say . My mom was a very intelligent woman that could always figure things out whether it be for us her children or various family members. Growing up I remember that we may not have had much but we had a roof over our head and our clothes were clean and we always had food on the table . One tough year when we finally rented a house she took the $ 75.00 dollars from child support and bought us bunk beds ! So we lived for awhile on the "greens " we all picked from various parks like Fairmont Park...my mom taught me so many things at such a young age that I got the picture and the frame years ago. Thanks for being my mom and my best friend , my back -up partner in crime ,my teacher ,my confidant
my hero , my fan , thank you for telling all of your children that you are beautiful and smart and there is not a dang thing you can't do no matter what ! I love and will always miss you...here I go " Cindy ! " did you cry ? Don't give anyone the upper hand ! Yes mom for the last while I have cried...( and yes my green eyes have taken the thingy ) Love you Mom !

Dear Aunt Christina,
Thank you for taking my mother's ashes to Park City cemetery and giving her a special place next to yours and her siblings. My siblings and I visited our mothers grave in the summer of 2023. The last time we were all together was after my mom passed in 1998. You gave us a precious gift. Thank you Aunt Christina.
Love, Maria

When I was a child, Grandma would help me fall asleep by kissing her index finger then stroked my eyebrows while singing sweet songs to me. I remember how comfortable and safe I felt when she would do that, and it would put me out every time. Grandma sang all the time and most songs she made up. She had sweet songs, but she also had some hilarious songs too. All the songs were catchy, and I remember most of them to this day. Grandma probably talked as much as she sang and that was fun.

Grandma was proud of her yard, and I had a lot of fun times with my cousins in that beautiful jungle wonderland. But now as an adult I look back and can really appreciate the roses she planted in the front garden. She planted different colored roses for each of her grandchildren then named them after us kids. My rose bush was called "Christina Blue Girl", and it was beautiful. Although my grandma had her faults I have so many beautiful memories with her and keep them close to my heart. I learned a lot from her, and we had a lot of fun. I have a lot of my grandma in me and will pass some of her eccentricities to my own grandchildren.

I want to thank my grandma for all the good times we shared, and I hope she knows how much I love her.
