Claire Behr Obituary

Claire Ellen Dodge Behr, 75, of Clinton, Iowa, died Tuesday, November 22, 2005, at her home. Memorial Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, November 26, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Connie Peake officiating. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory.
Claire Ellen Dodge Behr was born July 12, 1930, in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of Ray and Bonnie (Heller) Dodge. She married Robert E. Behr on May 9, 1954. She was a 1948 graduate of Clinton High School. She was a graduate of Stephens College and University of Iowa, with a degree in commerce.
She worked as a bookkeeper and business manager for Ray Dodge Motors, director of the Y-Teen and 18-30 club at the YWCA, Advocate for the district court for over 17 years, as well as managing a farm and real estate. She served on the Governor's Advisory Board and was the recipient of the Wayne Currin Bruce Meritorious Service Award (1981) and the Liberty Bell Award (1984) for community service. She was always willing to help the youth in the community. Claire was a Girl Scout leader for over 20 years and served on the boards for several community organizations. Claire also helped establish Pathways Living Center.
She was a member of GFWC, PEO-Chapter KY, Order of the Eastern Star, Rebecca Lodge, Agatha Auxiliary, and the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as past deaconess.
She is survived by two sons, Rob Behr, of San Diego, Calif., and David (Lisa) Behr, of Clearbrook, Va.; two daughters, Carole Behr, of Clinton, and Bonnie (Mike) Espey, of Clinton; seven grandchildren, Nate, Melissa, and Joey Behr, Amy and Connie Chapman, and Michael and Matt Espey; and one great-grandson, Tucker Behr.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray Dodge and Bonnie Dodge Petersen.
The family requests that memorials be made to the family to be divided between various charities.
