Family-Placed Death Notice

BROMLEY, Clare Clare Livingston Bromley, Jr., DVM passed away on January 11, 2008 in Gainesville, Florida, with his children, sister and friends nearby. He passed peacefully and according to his wishes. He was in a miraculous rally in his last days. Known to all as Bud or Buddy, he had engineered his passing as much as possible with his knowledge of medicine and life sciences, which was his intellectual passion. Dr. Bromley was a dedicated veterinarian from the University of Georgia's College of Veterinary Medicine, class of 1951, which was the first graduating class. In his last hours, while being comforted by his daughter-in-law Christal and her Aunt Jinny Slucher, Dr. Bromley delivered a detailed lecture while dreaming, meant for students of veterinary surgical procedures on small animals. Within minutes of his passing a nurse asked what to do about the fleas on her cat, and he replied smiling "bring over a neighbor's cat." Born October 18, 1925 in Florida, son of Clare Livingston Bromley and Minnie Stoddard Bromley, he is survived by his beloved and attentive sister Clariece Bromley Gregory and her husband John Lawrence Gregory, as well as all of his children and their children, including Patricia Lee Bromley and Stephen Robert Bromley of Atlanta, GA, David Stoddard Bromley of Canton, MI, Lori Bromley of Tallahassee, FL and Clare L Bromley, III of Del Mar, CA. He is predeceased by two sisters, Evilo B. Doster and Marjorie B. Wood - both of Atlanta, Ga. Dr. Bromley was also preceded in death by Brenda Hirsh Bromley, of Atlanta, his wife of 43 years, who passed two years ago. They were long time residents of Steinhatchee, FL after retiring from veterinary practice in Atlanta. He had close personal and professional friends going back to his youth, his fellow WWII B-24 bomber crew, and his many colleagues and their families at the University of Georgia and The Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston, where he interned. Many of his dearest lifelong friends were the families of the pets he cared for during his career in Atlanta where he built and ran one of the first small animal hospitals. Buddy spoke daily with his lifelong friend Mrs. Frances Todman, of New York City. He was especially cheered by Mrs. Todman's words and her many kindnesses after his wife Brenda died. An online memorial is on www.legacy.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston, MA or simply hug a loved one, friend or pet today. Family and Friends -On Friday Jan.18th at 12.30 pm ,I fulfilled my Dad's wishes by spreading his ashes and dropping his granite monument in the Gulf of Mexico at a specified Latitude /Longitude.The same spot he and I took Brenda just 3 years prior. The location is about 3 miles out from the #1 Marker at the entrance to the Steinhatchee River. If you are out that way ,say a prayer for him and Brenda -then do what he would want you to do -catch some fish!
My Thanks go out to Capt. Steve Kroll of the boat Anna Marie. This kind man on less than an hours notice took me out on a cold, gray day to get this accomplished. If you want a good guide and gentleman to go fishing out of Steinhatchee, look up Capt. Kroll on pepperfishkey.com
He has the Lat/Long to take you right where my Dad and Brenda are resting.

To the children of Buddy and Brenda Bromley. You had very special parents, and you blessed them. Tom and I first found Buddy in Brunswick, GA when our beagle hound, Cletus was attacked by a dog at the beach. The dog suffered a huge tear to the scalp and Buddy fixed it so well it was never even visible. And then to our delight and surprise, he not only moved to Atlanta, but close to our home where he cared for all our pets until he and Brenda moved to Florida. That was 54 years ago and I'm still taking my pets, which have grown in number through the years, to Northside Drive Pet Hospital which the Bromleys founded. I mourn both friends. With profound sympathy for your loss, Patsy Dickey

Dr. "B" as I called him, even though I met him after he retired and moved to Steinhatchee, was a pleasure to have on my UPS route. He and Ms "B" ordered quite a bit of things which required me to drive down that long road to the river at least 2 times a week. I didn't mind, they always greeted me with a warm smile and an offer for something cold to drink or warm to drink, depending on the time of year. Everytime I left their place I always thought of my grandfather. Dr. "B" just seemed like the grandfatherly type. My heart goes out to you the family,
but I know Heaven and Ms. "B" are rejoicing to see him finally come home.
