Clifford Ambers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 10, 2025.
Clifford Lawrence "Cliff" Ambers, Jr., age 88, passed away on August 4, 2025, in Springfield, Oregon. Born on August 19, 1936, in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Cliff spent the majority of his life in his beloved home state, where he built a legacy rooted in hard work, curiosity, and devotion to family.

A graduate of Klamath Union High School in the Class of 1954, Cliff went on to serve his country as military police in the U.S. Army at Fort Lewis-McCord from 1959 to 1962. He continued his service in the Army Reserves until 1968. His time in the military instilled in him a deep sense of discipline and responsibility that would guide him throughout his life.

Cliff dedicated 38 years of his professional life to Weyerhaeuser, a timber company that played a central role in the economy and culture of southern Oregon. In addition to his work there, he owned and operated a cattle ranch, farm, and timber land-endeavors that reflected both his industrious nature and his love for the land. It was on this land that he raised his five daughters, instilling in them the values of perseverance, education, and integrity.

Though Cliff was unable to complete college himself due to the demands of raising a family, he remained a lifelong learner and placed great importance on education. He was immensely proud that all of his daughters graduated from college-a testament to the encouragement and support he provided them. His intellectual curiosity never waned; at age 85, he authored a book "Long Way Home", demonstrating not only his enduring passion for knowledge but also his determination to keep learning and creating well into his later years.

Cliff's interests were as expansive as they were deep. He was an avid reader with a particular love for history and archaeology. He served for eight years on the advisory board of the Klamath County Museum, where he shared his extensive knowledge about Oregon's past and natural environment. Proud of his Norwegian heritage, Cliff delighted in recounting stories about his ancestry and cultural traditions.

He is survived by his daughters Norma Feehan, Elaine Ambers, Camille Ambers, and Laura Hess; grandchildren: Daniel Heatley, Tiffany Easling, Stephanie Harris, Zander Copeland, Logan Kozera, Sierra Moore, Mishawn Fitzgerald, Peyton Hess and Landon Hess; four great-grandchildren; his niece Valerie Hereford; numerous cousins; his first wife Betty; and his second wife Robin Dorr-Williams.

Cliff was preceded in death by his parents Gladys and Clifford Ambers Sr.; his sister Laverne Robertson; brother Harold Jerry Ambers; brother Albert Leroy Ambers, his third wife Judy Ambers; fourth wife Barbara Hall Ambers; his eldest daughter Joana Ambers-Voyid; and grandson Magnus Penkava.

A man of many chapters-soldier, timber worker, rancher, historian, writer-Cliff lived a full life marked by resilience and reflection. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and inspiration to those who follow.

Cliff worked as a volunteer for many hours at the Klamath County Museum. Along with Bill Anderson and Dave Mattos, Cliff gathered information on numerous soldiers, sailors, and airmen from Klamath who gave up their lives in service to our country.

Cliff and Bill also sorted out a large stack of unidentified photos of lumber mills in the region.

And, Cliff had a fondness for iris gardening. A few of his favorites are shown here.
