Clifford Coleman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 2, 2024.
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. Clifford "Tariq" Coleman, who departed this life on July 17, 2024, at the age of 59 in Newark, New Jersey. Born on October 9, 1964, in Newark, he was the cherished son of the late Priscilla Coleman and Clarence "Curly" Coleman.

Clifford was a graduate of Bragaw Ave School and Montgomery High School, where he distinguished himself as a dedicated wrestler. His industrious nature led him to a career that encompassed a range of vocations, including serving the community at a Medical Transportation Company, managing the family-owned C&C Car Wash, and upholding the legacy of his father's business, Curly's Coleman Shoe Shop.

He is survived by his loving children, Nickie Overby of Newark, NJ, Jasmine and Felicia Smith of Rocky Mount, NC; sons, Al-Tariq Smith Upstate NY and Elijuwon Counts of Douglasville, GA. His cherished granddaughters, Kyla Marshall and Ja'Lexis Wright, will forever treasure the memories of his playful spirit. He also leaves behind his devoted sister, Clarice "Nookie" Coleman (and her partner, Scott Daniels), and his twin brother, Clarence Coleman Jr. With a hosts of nieces and nephews and his close friend William who will continue to honor his memory.

Preceded in death by his parents, Priscilla and Clarence, as well as his siblings Denise, Melanie, Linda, and Ronald, Clifford will be fondly remembered for his unique zest for life and his unwavering commitment to his family and friends.

We invite you to join us in commemorating Clifford's life at Perry's Funeral Home, 34 Mercer St, Newark, New Jersey 07103. The service will be a tribute to a man whose authenticity and character were as distinctive as the life he led.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Clifford "Tariq" Coleman. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him, and he will be deeply missed by all.
