Clifton L. Mattson

Clifton Lincoln Mattson, "Clif", 83, of Muskego, WI passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025 at St. Luke's Hospital in Milwaukee, WI with his family at his side. Clif was born on Feb. 5, 1942 in Ashland, WI to the late Einar and Viola (Somppi) Mattson.

Clif grew up on a farm in Marengo, Wisconsin. A 1960 graduate of Mellen High School, Clif loved playing basketball and baseball, and excelled at both.

On Sep. 2, 1961 Clif married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Tobisch, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Mellen, WI. They would have soon celebrated their 64th year of marriage.

Clif retired in 2004 with 42 years of service in the airline industry. He started his career in Kansas City briefly working for Braniff Airlines. He then worked for Northwest Airlines in Washington D.C. for less than a year when they transferred to Milwaukee where he remained until his retirement with Delta Airlines as a transportation agent.

Clif's life revolved around his family. He loved spending time with his sons, grandkids and great-grandkids. He loved coaching baseball for his sons and grandkids. He enjoyed attending every activity they were involved in! You name it, Clif was there supporting them! Clif played on a baseball team with his younger son until he was 62. The team brought him a rocking chair at his last game! Clif loved the outdoors and looked forward to hunting seasons with family and friends. The camaraderie and storytelling were the best parts!

Clif had a good sense of humor and was always ready with a joke! He was a genuinely kind, friendly man and people liked spending time with him. Clif looked forward to attending annual family reunions at Hayward and the Northern Aged Iron Tractor & Threshing Show in Highbridge. Clif couldn't go by a John Deere store without stopping in! He enjoyed taco Thursdays with his buddies and long-time friend Jack, watching sports, bike riding, 4-wheeling and snowmobiling.

Clif and Marilyn maintained close ties to their hometown and through the years made many trips "up north" to their place in Highbridge. They loved going out to eat with family and friends! They both liked listening to music and enjoyed outdoor concerts and trips to Branson. Clif said his favorite trip was to Switzerland!

Clif is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn; sons, Kevin (Bonnie) Mattson and Brian (Barb) Mattson; grandchildren, Stacey (Erin) Hollister and daughters Emery and Waverly; Jake (Megan) and son Theodore; Taylor; Zach (Ashley); Joe (Carly) and children Rhett, Clare and Stella; Hank (Seyi); and Lexie (Hunter). Clif is also survived by sister, Virginia Craven; brother, Vincent Mattson (Marsha); sisters-and brothers-in-law, Shirley Carlino (Bob), Jeanette (Pat) Watson, Kathy (Dave) Robillard, Carol (Joel) Wocelka and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Clif was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clifford Mattson; sisters-in-law, Eunice and Mary Anne Mattson; brothers-in-law, Bill Craven and Pete Carlino; and mother and father-in-law Hank and Lorraine Tobisch.

Honoring Clif's wishes there will be no funeral services. Interment will take place in Mount Hope Cemetery in Highbridge, Wisconsin at a later date.
