Services for Clyde Walter, 84, Geneseo, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Grace United Methodist Church, Geneseo. Geneseo Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct military services at the church. Private inurnment will be Monday in North Cemetery, Geneseo.
Visitation is 4-6 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Mr. Walter died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Iowa City.
Vandemore Funeral Homes Ltd., Atkinson/Geneseo, is in charge of arrangements.
He owned and operated Walter’s Men’s Clothing Store in downtown Geneseo for 40 years. He helped bring to Geneseo the Richmond Hill Players, Richmond Hill Park and Geneseo Historical Society Museum. He had directed plays for many years at Black Hawk East Community Players in Kewanee and Quad-City Music Guild. In 1968, he initiated plans for the Johnson 1910 Farm between Atkinson and Geneseo on U.S. 6 and lead tours there for 25 years.
He was born March 21, 1918, in rural Geneseo.
During World War II, he served as an Army combat engineer in England and Europe. As a part of Army Special Forces, he was in charge of the guest house for visiting USO performers at Camp Davis in the United States.
Memorials may be made to Richmond Hill Barn Theater or Geneseo Historical Society.
Survivors include two nephews and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
