May 21, 1992 — Jan. 23, 2009

Cody William Hilker, 16, of Crossville, passed away Jan. 23, 2009. Funeral services were conducted Jan. 29 at Linary Church of Christ, with Bro. Brent Walker officiating.

Cody was born May 21, 1992, in Mesa, AZ, the son of William Garth and Glenice Margaret Varner Hilker.

He was a junior at Stone Memorial High School where he was very active on the high school bowling team and the Cumberland County trap team. He had a tremendous love for the outdoors and nature. He was also an avid mountain biker. Because of his passion for the outdoors and his love for animals, his future plans were to be a TWRA officer. He was a loving and trusted friend to many and will be greatly missed by those whose lives he has touched.

Survivors include his father, William Hilker of Rickman; mother, Glenice Richards of Crossville; grandparents, Katherine Hilker of Rickman and Betty and Eddie Owen of Crossville; sister, Shelby Hilker of Crossville; aunts and uncles, Bud and Susan Hilker, Bob and Claire Turner and Margaret Bradley; and cousins, Christopher Hilker, Michelle and Cheyenne Berryhill, Cory Azlin, Donna Story, Taylor Story, Joshua Story, Jessie Story, Denise Stone, Jessica Stone, Rick Lipford, Dalton Lipford, Chase Lipford, Megan Lipford, Randy Calvert, Tink Marks and Ellen Marks.

The family has respectfully asked that donations be made to TWRA in Cody's memory.

Hood Funeral Home and Crematory, LLC (www.hoodfuneralhome.com) was in charge of the arrangements.

Cody was one of the first kids I met when I filled in for one of this teachers at SMHS. He was a sweet boy and was always very nice and polite to me. Later he became one of my daughters friends and our family is deeply saddened for your loss. May God give your comfort and peace.

No bond is as great as that between a parent and child. My heart is broken for our loss. May we all be brought a little closer to our Creator, our God with the assurance that we will see Cody again.

I'm sorry for your loss. My thoughts and Prayers are with your family during this tough time.

God saw he was getting tired
And a cure was not to be
So he wrapped his arms around him
and whispered come with me
With tear filled eyes we watched him suffer and fade away
Though we loved him deeply we could not make him stay
A golden heart stopped beating
Hard working hands put to rest
God broke our hearts to prove he only takes the very best
