Colette Selby Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 3, 2024.
Colette Marie Selby, passed away on December 31, 2023, in Vadnais Heights, Minnesota, at the age of 71 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born May 11, 1952, on Mother's Day in Rochester, Minnesota, to her late parents Bernard and Mary Selbitschka. Colette was a loving and cherished mother to her children Angela (Tyson) Marlette, Ross (Shana) Kolodziej, and Mitchell (Amanda) Kolodziej-Fure. She was also a proud grandmother to Keagan, Phoenix, and Mirrha.

Colette has a close-knit family and is survived by her nine brothers and sisters: Jennifer Piccolo, Bernard Selbitschka Jr., Pam (Kevin) Riley, Brenda (Steve) Lawler, Brian Selbitschka, Debbie (Jeff) Mischnick, Thomas Selbitchka, Monica (Greg) LeMay, and Todd Selbitschka. She also leaves behind a plethora of adoring nieces, nephews, and cousins who will cherish her memory.

As a child she was known to be a handful, keeping her parents and siblings on their toes. She said she would purposely miss the school bus home just to be able to walk to Marigold Dairy (her dad's job) and have ice cream. Her sense of adventure and joyous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In 1970, Colette graduated from North High School and started courses at the University of Minnesota and completing them at Lakewood State Junior College. After working for Prudential for over 20 years, in 1995, Colette embarked on a new career in nursing, graduating from Anoka-Hennepin Technical College. Colette's dedication to her profession, caring nature and steadfast faith changed the lives of many.

Colette found solace and strength in her relationship with Jesus Christ. She and her children grew in faith as they worshipped together at The Church of St. Paul in Ham Lake and later, she became a long-time parishioner and Eucharistic minister at The Church of the Epiphany. She was proud to be Catechetical Institute graduate and loved traveling, painting, building snowmen and listening to the waves break on the shores of Lake Superior.

Colette Marie Selby will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her loving nature, adventurous spirit, and dedication to her family and community will be cherished forever.

A visitation to honor Colette's life will take place at Washburn McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel on Monday, January 8th, 2024, from 9am to 12pm. The Church of the Epiphany will offer visitation starting at 1:30pm and Mass followed by burial at 2:30pm. The family is planning light refreshements and fellowship to follow. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Colette's remarkable life.

I met Colette when she came to my office to enroll in Medicare. Right away I noticed her calm energy. Even though she was having issues getting Social Security to process part of her Medicare application, she navigated the difficulty with grace and kindness. She coined me as her "Medicare Daughter" and whenever she sent me an email or left a voicemail, she would always end with: "Thank you for your help. I'm grateful for you, my Medicare Daughter!" I always loved connecting with Colette and hearing about her time with her siblings at the cabin, her children, and activities with her grandchildren. She even invited my own two children to her house for an afternoon of painting and playing out back in the trees behind her house. She had the skill of welcoming people with open arms. Colette is someone I want to be like. Her heart, warmth, kindness, and perseverance are an inspiration. You will be remembered Colette!

I met Colette when she started working at the same company I was at. She had an inner peace that was unmatched. She followed her faith in God with everything she had. She had a crazy love for the winter and snow unlike anybody I've known. And last but not least she was an amazing friend. She will be missed

I knew Colette through an earlier job for both of us. She was extremely helpful to me and often was the calming voice I needed. I again met up with her at Genevive and she still had the calming voice. She was a wonderful coworker and I know we used to talk about traveling alot which she really enjoyed. I am so sorry for your loss of your mother, sibling and coworker.

Colette remembered all of her coworkers at Christmas - she never failed to send us all a card. She made me feel so welcome when I was first hired and thereafter remembered my name every time I saw her. She was such a gift to our workplace.

Colette was a wonderful supportive co-worker.
She made beautiful bead jewelry, and was a true artist.
I loved that she would make a snowman at every chance she got.
She had a beautiful smile and gave great hugs.
She will be missed by many.

I remember her love of snowmen. She would make a snowman out of the smallest bits of snow. Karolyn Gerard

At the first 4th July party at Todd´s Colette and I were put in charge of decorations. We were givens bags of fake flowers, banners, flags and other random things. I enjoyed working with her and appreciated her creativity!

She kept my brother company while he was nervously waiting for me to show up to Todd's Christmas party a few years back.

Her and danny lit up our wedding with the swing dance they did. Im glad she had a good time. It's really hard to belive she's no longer with us.

I will miss the random texts and calls checking in on me. Aunt Collette was so generous with her time, love and guidance. She taught me so much about faith and life and I will always honor her memory.
