SMITH, Colin James July 6, 1954 - December 30, 2009 It is with great sadness that the family of Colin James Smith announces his passing after a battle with cancer marked by courage, determination and dignity. Colin is survived by his mother, Margaret; his wife, Leslie; his two sons, Dale and Kelly; his father-in-law, Archie; sister-in-law, Sherry; and special nieces and nephews, Tera and Rick and Melissa and Dave. He will also be lovingly remembered by his grandnieces, Katelyn and Alyson; and grandnephew, Marcus; along with aunts, uncles, numerous cousins and friends. Colin was predeceased by his father, Ronald, and mother-in-law, Mary. Colin accomplished many things during his fifty-five years, but would be most proud of his love for his family and friends, his work as a senior professional engineer, his sweet golf swing and the kindness he extended to all. A Celebration of Colin's Life will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Foster and McGarvey Sherwood Park-Millwoods Funeral Home, 4820 Meridian Street (Meridian Street can only be accessed when heading South on Highway 14 - the access is 1 km South of the Sherwood Park Freeway on Highway 14), Edmonton. Special thanks to Dr. Brian MacAlpine, Home Care, Dr. Channa and the Nursing Staff of the 9Y Hospice, General Hospital, as well as Dr. Helen Sachs, Ms. Janet Lockington, MSW and the Luipasco family. Dear Leslie, Dale and Kelly,

I have so many wonderful memories of Colin, especially his love of life and friendship to everyone. I remember the ski trips to Montana and the group lunches at University. How Colin spent hours planning my first year Uni. timetable to make it easier for me. And this was way before computers/internet, when you actually had to go class to class and stand in line. That is typical Colin behaviour.

I heard about your wonderful trips in the summer to Europe and the great memories you made. Colin was so proud of his boys and cherished Leslie.

Colin will be greatly missed, my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Smitty, it was a privilege and an honor to have known you and will always cherish the humor and associated laughter you brought. Still remember coming back from a ski trip where the old car trunk on opening revealed a few sardines and the related fragrance of the ocean with it! Till this day trying to ascertain who may have done this? Other memory would be of Parkers Ridge near the Columbia Ice Fields to climb a mountain for two hours in July for a twenty second ride down; and the reminder while perhaps crazy what an experience we all had!

Smitty, it looks like you have reached the top of the mountain, enjoy your next ride and all the very best to your family on their climb.
