Connor Patrick Monahan, 33, peacefully passed away on August 5, 2025, surrounded by family and friends, in Falls Church, Virginia after a hard-fought battle with Angiosarcoma. Born on July 16, 1992, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Connor lived a life marked by dedication to service, intellectual achievement, a deep passion for sports and adventure, and a love for his family.

Connor grew up in Strafford, New Hampshire and as a child enjoyed participating in his passions of playing ice hockey and soccer, boating on Bow Lake, and spending summers camping in the White Mountains with family and family friends. A proud 2011 graduate of Coe-Brown Northwood Academy, Connor earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire in 2015. His academic pursuits reflected his sharp intellect and curiosity about the world around him-qualities that would serve him well throughout his career.

Following graduation, Connor was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, then promoted to First Lieutenant in 2017 and Captain in 2019. He served with distinction as a satellite operator at the 4th Space Operations Squadron at Schriever Space Force Base within the USAF Space Command, and later contributed to the U.S. Space Force as an operator of the X-37B unmanned Orbital Test Vehicle. His work in these elite programs demonstrated not only technical expertise but also a steadfast commitment to national service and innovation.

Connor's love for life extended far beyond his professional accomplishments. From a young age, he was enamored with books, especially the Harry Potter series. Recent time off from work allowed him more time to read some of his favorite genres: historical fiction and nonfiction, science fiction, and fantasy. He also loved spending time watching new movies and rewatching his favorites: Miracle, The Sound of Music, It's a Wonderful Life, most comedies, and of course the Harry Potter series. Alongside reading and movie watching, he enjoyed working through his favorite New York Times games, The Crossword and Spelling Bee, and listening to country music.

He was an avid sports enthusiast who found joy in hockey, football, NASCAR racing, international soccer, ice skating, skiing, and snowboarding. Whether watching a match or carving down snowy slopes, he embraced each moment with enthusiasm and energy and loved bringing friends together to share in his passions.

Connor met the love of his life, Anastasia June Shancey, in 2018 while they were stationed together in Colorado Springs, CO. Two years later, they were assigned to northern Virginia, where they married in a beautiful ceremony in 2022. Finding their townhouse a bit small, Connor and Ana purchased their dream home in Catlett, Virginia in July 2024. Connor loved spending time on house projects and in his workshop; making the lawn look immaculate; getting to know the neighbors; walking his dog; smoking meat on his Traeger on Sundays; and going to community events, including the weekly farmers market. He took pleasure in the simple things in life, like sitting on the porch, working on a puzzle, reading books, cooking dinner together, driving with the windows down, playing cribbage, and frequenting the local soft serve shop.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Anastasia Monahan, and their pets, Lilian, Louis, and Rory; his parents, Brian and Dianna Monahan; his brother, Brennen Monahan; and his sister, Cailinn Monahan and her fiancé, Tucker Owens; his maternal grandparents, Robert & Barbara Payne; his paternal grandparents, Richard and Nanci Monahan; his in-laws, Mary & Bill Shancey; his brother-in-law, Eric Shancey, and his wife Mairéad Lawrenson; and his brother-in-law, Billy Shancey, and his wife Madison; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and a very tight group of close friends. Their lives were enriched by Connor's presence-his humor, loyalty, and unwavering support.

Connor's legacy lives on through those who knew him best and loved him most. He cherished his family, and his family extended beyond biology into the friendships he held dear. May his memory bring comfort and strength to all who mourn his passing.

Connor will be laid to rest at the NH State Veteran's Cemetery, Boscawen, NH.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 25, 2025, with calling hours from 05:00 PM to 08:00 PM at Waterfront at The Elks, 500 Jones Ave., Portsmouth, NH.

Connor and I worked together for about a year, and although it was a short time, he quickly became a good friend. Witnessing his courage and strength to face this head on and during his battle was something I will carry with me for the rest of my life. He did not let this terrible sickness impact what kind of person he was. Even on his worst day, he always made time for anyone.
I will miss him very much. It is going to be hard to not have the ability to text him with random thoughts just for so I can get his response.
Rest well my friend, you have earned it.

To the entire family of Connor. Unfortunately I did not have the pleasure of meeting Connor in person, but certainly I knew him through the Shancey family. His mother in law Mary is a dear friend and was so excited when Ana met Connor and eventually became his wife. The wonderful personality and kindness Mary spoke of Connor made me smile and felt I knew him. Ana, is a beautiful, humble, caring and a strong woman. I pray that God watches over Ana and guides her through this difficult journey of life. Many prayers for all who knew and loved Connor.
RIP Connor
