Thinking of you, Terry and Louise, as you remember your mother today. She was very special - larger than life and very giving...things that she definitely passed on to her daughters. I have memories of her when I was very young, a young adult and into my married life...we know you both miss her!

Connie's passing has left the entire Iverclan (Jess, Chad, Zappa, Rick and Wu) saddened, but we are so thankful to have known her. It is especially heartwarming to learn that our son, Zappa, brought her so much joy in the short time they were both on this planet. We like to think her spirit will watch him grow. She was a lovely woman and will be missed greatly. Lots of love from us to you.

Mom and Sante on Mom's 90th birthday

Terry Broadworth

March 21, 2016

This photo was taken 8 months ago, on Mom's 90th birthday in Louise's back yard paradise. Mom LOVED Sante and he presented her with her cake. Sante and Louise scooped her from the nursing home, every chance they got and brought her home to watch them build and work in the garden. They would play crib, have lunch and watch the birdies on their beautiful covered porch - an outdoor living room.

Michael and I extend our condolences to Terry, Louise and family with the passing of Connie. I have fond memories as a child of spending evenings with Terry and Louise while Connie, Don, my parents (Pat and John Gurton) and a host of friends and Broadworth clan gathered for musical evenings at the Broadworth home, or ours. Lots of fun in those days and I will keep those memories close now that all four of our parents are gone from us. I know that Connie's spirit will live on in many hearts, including ours!

Mom - you kept us grounded, authentic and compassionate. Your family was everything to you. I know you are with me in the hummingbird and flower and in the quite hours of the night when my mind is stilled. You give me music to play, words to say and heart that is full of joy. We shared paths throughout our life - with the waters between making us closer. You were always a telephone call away. You created the cells of my life - we are of one. It will soon be time to put aside my grief, celebrate your spirit and wrap myself in the Love that I know was always there...... and then there were two.....I Love You.

The Home of my Youth Victoria, BC
(written for Mom - June 1st 2006)

I'm sailing a leaf
in a mud puddle pool
Outside the garage of my youth
The driveway is steep
and lined with the scent
Of Lilacs and Iris in bloom
Close your mouth tight
don't let a seed fall
From Laburnum pods
up in the sky
I still recall
the Rules of those days
As I discovered
a world through my eyes

Out in the front yard
beside the big pipe
The fuchsia grows droplets of red
They don't taste as good
as they look - I recall
As the memories dance in my head
The bubble glass on
the front porch door
Tastes bitter when licked as a child
It's painted charm
still alive in my mind
That cream coloured glass on my tongue

On the front porch
where we stood side by side
Two sisters - getting ready for school
With geraniums and plants
in that hot humid room
Intensified scents
of their herbal perfume
Mom's pictures refresh
those innocent days
How wonderful they were without fear
We walked - one full mile
to go to our school
And we did it safely alone
in those years

Our basement is dark
with an uneven floor
But only a part is unfinished.
The counters are full
of carpenter tools
And a room full of sawdust
that itches
Under the band saw
scraps of wood in a box
Pretty curls settle there from a planer
The fishing supplies,
neatly stacked in their place
Special lures, pungent oils,
and paint thinner

I remember the crock
sitting by the old furnace
Ceramic crock filled with
oranges and rice
It had a big presence
and was fun for our folks
When friends partied
the Sake was nice
We said our goodnights
and without any fuss
We'd head up the long stairs
to our beds
The music then started
those wonderful tunes
Rising up - through the vents
to our heads

We'd catch wasps in a jar
and risk a big scene
With our pop bottle prisons - in hand
Those who were nesting
inside of our home
Met their sugary fate - on demand
As we pounded the siding
beside the knot hole
Out they would fly in a fury
We'd cap off the top
to avoid being caught
Then run down the drive - in a hurry

We had a great swing
Dad made at his work
That went round and round in our yard
We climbed on the fence
and onto the roof
Of that memorable fun filled garage
We dived off the corner
to the compost pile
Hoping the musty cut grass
had no prickles
We played - Hide and Seek
in the summertime
Then Mom called us home
with the Whistle

We had a big soup fight
when we were small
And it's funny how things
set the stage
I never have tomato soup in my house
Even now as I've reached middle age
That sounds trivial at best
to make such a fuss
Of a childish prank played years ago
But you need to know
the worst of that scene
Were the Venetian Blinds
in the window

The canopied street
is now bumpy with age
As the roots of the trees
have all grown
I am thrilled that our old house
stands firm on the hill
The first house of my youth
we called home
The years have flown by
and our neighbours are gone
But those early days live on
in my mind
And what better way
to preserve them at best
In a creative outlet like this rhyme

Thank you Mom for being the Best Mom and Friend Ever.... I will truly miss our laughter and great sense of humor that we shared. You just being there when I needed someone to lean on. Your wise words of life in general. You were one smart cookie on many fronts. Oh how I miss you. You are in a better place with many now who have loved you before. Visit me often and know you were loved by many. You will always be with me! We're of one now. I Love You! Weezee xxxx
