Cora Catharine Bonds

Cora Catharine Bonds, age 33, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 in Tallahassee, Florida. Cora resided in Beach Park, Illinois. She was born on September 5, 1991 in Chicago, Illinois, and is preceded in death by her father, Anthony Bonds, Grandma Catharine and Grandpa Kerry Markey and Grandaddy Curtis Bonds, Sr., all of whom she loved so dearly.

Those left to cherish her memory include: her beloved son, Anthony Bonds, Jr; her brother, Curtis Russell Bonds; her sister, Nathalie Joy Bonds; her sister, Xochitl Helen Guerrero; and her brothers, Paul Douglas Ramos-Markey, and Edward Fernando Ramos-Markey. She also leaves behind her mother, Helen Hamilton Markey and many loved aunts, uncles, cousins and her Grandma Bettye Joy Bonds.

Cora passionately loved music, playing guitar and singing. She had planned to attend college in Florida and get her degree in Music Theory. Cora graduated from Evanston High School with honors, participating avidly in band, mostly marching band, and not only mastered Tuba and Sousaphone, but taught her brother as well and the two of them were fixtures together at games and events.. Additionally, Cora attended Columbia College in Chicago where she focused on music.

Cora also loved reading and books, studying foreign languages such as Spanish and Chinese. She studied religion, observed Catholicism and studied the Bhagavad Gita, Koran and more. She was an artist, great at making things with her hands, sewing, knitting, drawing and more. In short, she was a Renaissance woman. Her friends loved her for her loyalty, and likewise were loyal to her. Cora loved to travel, especially down South. She was fearless, forging new paths for herself, eager to get out in the world and explore.

Cora was an aficionado of fine foods and culture, especially Asian and Latino. She liked cooking, spicy salsas, sea food, and exotic fruits. Practically never a day went by in which Cora did not bring a special new food item to share and encourage us to try. She learned to sing in Spanish and many evenings her lovely voice would waft through the house, her unique singing as only she sang. She will be greatly missed, her soulful eyes, her cheerful greeting, her thoughtful gifts that even, till the very end, arrived for Anthony posthumously.

Funeral services will be held at Culver Academies Memorial Chapel, 1300 Academy Rd, Culver, Indiana on Sunday, June 15, 2025 at 11:00 AM Eastern Time, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, please donate to The Greater Chicago Food Depository https://www.chicagosfoodbank.org
