Cornelius P. Mahoney

Cornelius P. Mahoney, 80, of Rockland, died Sept. 8, 2012 at South Shore Hospital. He was born in Boston, son of the late Cornelius and Elizabeth (Kane) Mahoney and was raised and educated in Brighton. He graduated from Boston Trade High School as a member of the class of 1950. Cornelius was a proud veteran of our nations armed services, serving in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Mahoney was an Airplane Mechanic, and member of the VF 916 Squadron aboard the U.S.S. Midway. Mr. Mahoney was an avid reader, who loved to learn. He was a student of life. He enjoyed woodworking, making model airplanes, and even handcrafted cedar canoes. Cornelius was the husband of Josephine (Bizzozero) Manhoney of Rockland. Father of Linda Roderick of Rockland, Mark E. Mahoney of Whitman, Kathleen A. Payne of Hull, and the late Thomas M. Mahoney. Brother of Margaret Ring of Milford, John D. Mahoney of Lincoln, and Elizabeth Crawford of Rockland. Also survived by seven grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The Mahoney family welcomed friends and loved ones to celebrate his life at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St., Rockland, Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012 from 5-8 p.m. A funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012 at 11 a.m. in Holy Family Church.
