Corrine Ball Mehaffey, 78 of Maggie Valley passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at her residence with her sons by her side. She was born in Haywood County on December 25, 1930 to the late Clearcy Brown. Mrs. Mehaffey loved to cook for her family. Her favorite sport was fishing the creek in front of her house. She liked to quilt and can vegetables from her gardens. She loved to grow flowers. She always had a welcoming home for everyone. She deeply loved her only grandson, Brennan. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Mehaffey who passed away in 1984; a son, Keith Dale Mehaffey who was killed in Vietnam and a sister, Carolyn Sue Clark. She is survived by two sons, Carroll Mehaffey and his wife, Nancie, and Steven Mehaffey all of Maggie Valley; three sisters, Velma and her husband, Wilson Phillips of Murphy, Sadie and her husband, Clyde McGaha of Young Harris, GA and Cricket and her husband, Randy Carwile of Wetherford, TX; and one grandchild, Brennan C. Mehaffey. A service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, February 21, 2009 in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverend Jerry Nelson and Reverend Tim McConnell officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park. Scott Sutton, Scott Guge, Zach Reece, Jack Mehaffey, Mike Mehaffey, and Tim Carver will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Mehaffey, Robert E. Messer, Butch Ramsey, Stokey Caldwell, and Tyker Russell. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital; 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The family of Mrs. Mehaffey would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of Haywood County and all of the friends and family who offered care and love to her during her illness.
