Cory Monteith Obituary
Monteith, who played the character Finn Hudson on the TV series about a high school glee club, was found dead in his room on the 21st floor of the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel on Vancouver's waterfront at about noon Saturday, according to police.
Deputy Police Chief Doug Lepard said there was no indication of foul play. Monteith's body was found by hotel staff after he missed his check-out time, Lepard said.
"We do not have a great deal of information as to cause of death," Coroner Lisa Lapointe said.
Lepard said Monteith had been out with people earlier and that those people are being interviewed.
In April, he admitted himself to a treatment facility for "substance addiction" and asked for privacy as he took steps toward recovery, a representative said at the time.
Lea Michele, his "Glee" co-star and real-life girlfriend, told People magazine that she loved and supported Monteith and was proud he was seeking help.
It was not Monteith's first time in rehab. He received treatment when he was 19 and had previously talked about his addiction struggles, saying he had a serious problem and took just "anything and everything."
He told Parade in 2011 that he was "lucky to be alive."
Monteith, who turned 31 on May 11, starred in "Glee" as Finn Hudson, a high school football player who puts his status and popularity at risk to join the glee club and its outcast members. Michele played his on-air girlfriend in "Glee," Rachel Berry.
The show, with its pop music-based musical numbers and high-profile guest stars including Gwyneth Paltrow, became an immediate hit and made stars of its relatively unknown cast.
On his Twitter account, Monteith described himself as "tall, awkward, canadian, actor, drummer, person."

GLEE is opening yourself up to joy. Cory, you left a legacy of joy. You were talented, compassionate, and sweet. The moment I "met" Finn Hudson, I knew he was going to be my favorite character, the one I would root for.
It was bittersweet watching the series finale, knowing what the real "happy ending" was meant to be. He truly was a leader, and his heart was full of love and kindness for those he worked with.
My heart hurts for his dear mother who must spend the rest of her life living with a broken heart, missing her precious boy. I hope God continues to heal her wounded spirit.
May you rest in peace, dear Cory. You will forever be missed. Despite the terrible addiction and its tragic results, I choose to remember how talented, how genuine, and how special you were.

I started watching Glee after it started, on Netflix. I loved the show because of one of the main actors, Cory, so I watched all of the seasons and episodes without stopping. I feel that I got to know him really well and he was an awesome, talented actor. Very nice looking young man! He will be missed and I grew to feel like I knew him. It is very sad that this happened. Cory has been gone over a year now. Gone but not forgotten. His talent blossomed before his eyes, and sadly, the demons of addiction overtook him.
He left behind a loving family, Lea, who cherished him, friends who adored him, and fans who cheered for him. As a mother of two, my heart goes out to his mother who has the sorrow of living the rest of her life without her precious child.
I pray for those struggling with addiction, that they seek help and find lasting sobriety and their families. I pray for those families who have lost loved ones to addiction.
Thank you, Cory, for your sharing your talent with us. I wish you had been able to rid yourself of the addiction and have had that "happy ending". You will never be forgotten.

I recently streamed through the entire "Glee" series, and fell in love with the show, and with Cory. It's amazing how much of an impact he's had on me in such a short time. A song fills the heart, stirs the soul, captures a moment. In your all too brief life, you filled our heats, stirred our souls, and captured moments with your tender ballads sung alone or with your lovely leading lady. It was with shock and sorrow when we learned of your death, a victim of an addiction that you could not overcome.
I pray that all the young people, who love you and look up to you even now in death, will learn the terrible reality of drug addiction and how quickly life can end because of it. I pray that those who are struggling now can find a lifeline, and that this lifeline will lead them to lasting recovery and healing.
