Cynthia Richardson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 14, 2023.
Cynthia "Cindy" Overmyer Richardson, 66, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on September 11, 2023. She was born on September 20, 1956, in Elkhart, Indiana, to Dorothy Mikel Overmyer and Lawrence Overmyer.

Cindy was a loving and generous individual who always put others before herself. She was known for her caring nature, thoughtfulness, and selflessness. Cindy had a great sense of humor and was often described as funny and goofy. She touched the lives of many with her kindness and helpfulness.

Cindy is survived by her devoted spouse, Gilley "Gil" Richardson, her son Ryan Richardson and daughter-in-law Ashley Richardson, her grandchildren Henry, Savannah, and Kylie Richardson, her son Joseph Richardson, her daughter Grace Lindsey, her son-in-law Brian Lindsey, and her granddaughter Avery Chavez. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Pearl and Charles Mikel.

Cindy had an impressive educational background. She attended Ligonier Elementary and West Noble Junior High before graduating from West Noble High School. She furthered her education at Arizona State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and earned a commission through ROTC as an Army nurse. Cindy later pursued a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas Austin.

Before her passing, Cindy had a fulfilling career as a nursing and clinical instructor at the University of the Incarnate Word for nearly 20 years. Several years prior to that, she served as a critical care nurse in the Army for 15 years. Her dedication to her profession left a lasting impact on her students and colleagues.

Cindy was actively involved in her community and worshipped at Community Bible Church (CBC), Blue Skies of Texas West, and Fort Sam Houston. She previously spent her time leading children's church, Journey to Bethlehem, youth group, and so on. Cindy's servant heart also loved to volunteer at Haven for Hope. She volunteered many times and every December helped prepare gifts and gingerbread houses for the families and children at Haven for Hope.

In her free time, Cindy enjoyed listening to music by Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. She was an avid reader of books and ebooks, and she loved engaging in conversations with others. Cindy also found joy in watching TV shows and movies, listening to praise and worship music, creating art, singing, baking, dancing, and creating Tik Toks to share her cancer journey. She treasured moments spent at the beach and in Indiana and valued quality time with her family. Cindy also enjoyed going out to eat with friends and family and playing games together.

A celebration of Cindy's life will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at 10 o'clock in the morning at Community Bible Church (CBC) in San Antonio, Texas. Contributions in memory of Cindy can be made to Haven for Hope and the nursing programs at the University of the Incarnate Word. If you would still like to send flowers, please send them to CBC on the morning of October 3, 2023.

The Neptune Society in San Antonio, Texas, and CBC are assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.

Cindy's joyful spirit will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of kindness, love, and selflessness will live on in the hearts of those she touched. As we celebrate her eternal life in Heaven, we give thanks for her time here on Earth.

My dear friend Cindy,
I returned home last week to find your post card from Europe. What a series of adventures you´ve had this year! I´m so glad you and your family spent these times together and I´m grateful that you thought of me while you were there. I´m not able to be at Cindy´s service today, but I will be thinking of her family and all our friends. Cindy was the first person to welcome me to the faculty at UIW and we shared so many memories talking on her old couch in her office. I remember going home the first day I met her and telling my family that I made a new friend today. :) that was and understatement! Cindy was my friend for the rest of her life and I will always treasure the laughs, talks, and times we had together. I will never forget the last time I got to hug her in December. We knew it would be the last time. Cindy, I love you and i promise we will work hard to carry on your sweet memory and the gifts you shared with the world.

Mrs. Richardson,

Thank you for being such a kind person. Thank you for being the light we all needed during the toughest times in nursing school. I will never forget the times you helped and encouraged me. I am better for knowing you, better for having met you. Heaven gained the most loving and fun angel when you left us.

I remember Cindy in high school. We were not close friends but I still enjoyed her kindness and friendliness. Deepest sympathy to her friends and family.
