Daisey Mae “Granny” (Heverin) Bailey, daughter of the late William Hyland Heverin Sr and Sadie Mae (Carroll) Heverin, was born December 21, 1931 in Townsend, Delaware. She graduated as the Valedictorian at James H. Grove High School/Middletown High School with her daughter Diane in June, 1984. Daisey Mae was blessed with three children. She was a Christian mother, homemaker, waitress, cafeteria aide, and seamstress, who loved her children, family, and friends immensely. Daisey Mae enjoyed sewing, cutting out the Family Circus newspaper cartoons, taking care of her plants, cleaning her home, collecting blue chinaware, keepsake dolls, and coins, and helping at Dance Unlimited, but her favorite pastime was spending time with her family, especially her grandbabies. Daisey Mae’s vision diminished in her elder years from Age-related Macular Degeneration causing her to become 90% blind, she lost 90% of her hearing, was receiving skin cancer treatments, and lived most of her adult life with Diverticulitis. But that did not slow her down as she continued to support all her grandchildren’s activities when in good health. As a result of her caring and giving personality, she was loved by many people. At 90 years old, Granny peacefully departed this life on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at home surrounded by family and friends.
Daisey Mae came from a large family and was also preceded in death by her eleven other siblings; William “Bill” Heverin, Carroll R Heverin, Charles “Ed” Heverin, James H Heverin Sr, Franklin D Heverin, Walter L Heverin, Pearl A (Heverin) Brommer, Sadie M (Heverin) Hall, Betty L (Heverin) McNatt, Ruth Heverin, and Sadie’s twin sister that died at birth. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Harold Charles (Bucky) Bailey, Jr on January 16, 1983, son-in-law, Robert James (Big Bobby) Harper Sr on May 14, 1994, daughter, Diane Mae Harper on December 31, 2018, ex-husband, Harold Bailey on May 12, 2020, and great-great-grandson, Gabriel Easton Harper Wolfe on January 22, 2021. Always remember, Granny loves you!
Daisey Mae’s beautiful life will be cherished forever in the lives of her family (three children, nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren). She is survived by her son, Harold C. “Buck” Bailey, Sr (Theresa) of Magnolia, DE, and their children’s families; Shelly Clegg (Richard) with Courtney Freebairn (John) and Corban; Michele Davis (Rick) with Bradley Davis (Summer) with Bradyn and Jakye and Brandi Hashman (Taylor) with Isabelle. Her daughter Lisa Michelle Fries (Jim) of Middletown, DE, and their daughters Ashley Michelle (fiancé Connor Swalm) and Jenna Lynn (boyfriend Noah Cicogna). Her grandchildren from her late daughter Diane and late son-in-law Big Bobby, Robert Harper Jr (Lisa) with Abigail Moyer (Chris) with Colton, Tristan, and Zane; and Robert John; James Harper; Gary Harper (girlfriend Jen) with Jason, and ex-daughter-in-law Penny (Weaver) Harper with Haley, and Alysha (fiancé Andrew) with Grayson and Graelynn; Cyndi Connelly (Thomas) with Bailey, Sadie Mae, and Harper; her only living sibling Ralph Heverin of Smyrna, DE; her companion Ronald Ash of Dover, DE; her sister-in-law Lillian (Gerth) Heverin; her ex-husband’s wife, Mary Louise (Vanhorn/Hall) Bailey with her children’s families, and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be at 11:00am Thursday, August 11, 2022. The family will receive friends from 10:00am to 11:00am prior to the funeral services at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 North Broad Street, Middletown, DE 19709 with a private interment following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities located at 2099 South DuPont Highway, #A, Dover, DE and/or Middletown Volunteer Hose Company located at 27 W. Green Street, Middletown, DE.

Granny was such a remarkable woman. She was the "total package"! Beautiful inside and out! Such a kind and fun spirit. She was such an important part of Dance Unlimited's early start-up and recitals. Granny always helped with the costumes and much more! The children simply adored her-and so did I. Everyone was considered family and treated as such. Praying that all who knew her try to continue her legacy of service and grace that she had shown to the world by doing the same. With much love and peace, Gail

Daisey Mae was one of the most talented women I know! I assure you, once you walked into her home,
you did not want to leave! Her decorating taste was impeccable, as well as her cake decorating, baking, sewing,
etc. My life was enriched by knowing her and working with her as a waitress. She always chose the "high bar"!
Family and friends were a very high priority for her and will be greatly missed by everyone..... "Din Din"
