DALE CARLISLE Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 22, 2016.
Dale Louis Carlisle Age 80, died peacefully on January 14, 2016 in his home in Tacoma, Washington, with his family by his side. Dale was born and raised in Walla Walla, Washington. He graduated with a degree in business from the University of Idaho, where he was very active on campus as Vandals' yell king, swim team letterman, student body president, Phi Gamma Delta fraternity president, and one of the "top ten" seniors in his graduating class of 1957. Dale graduated with a J.D. from George Washington University Law School, where he was President of the Student Bar Association and led numerous student activities including the presidential campaign to elect John F. Kennedy. Dale served his country as a Judge Advocate (U.S. Air Force) in Japan, and then relocated with his family to Tacoma. Dale's extensive legal career included Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington, and more than 50 years with the Tacoma-based firm of Gordon Thomas Honeywell Peterson & Daheim PLLC, where his focus was corporate law, real estate, and securities. Dale also taught law courses locally and abroad. Dale applied his energy and pursuit of excellence by giving back to his profession, educational organizations, and public and civic causes. He served as president of the Washington State Bar Association and the Western States Bar Conference, receiving the Washington State Bar Association Lifetime Service Award in 2007. Dale served as president of Tacoma City Club, Tacoma Public Library Board, and Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Foundation. Dale also served on the George Washington University Law School Board of Trustees. Dale was recognized with many awards and honors over the years, but perhaps was most proud of the University of Idaho Distinguished Alumni Award he received in 2010. In Dale's free time he greatly enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, travelling the world, swimming at the downtown Tacoma YMCA, fishing, and whistling. Dale is survived by Doris White Carlisle, his wife of 56 years, children Todd Carlisle and Dana Carlisle, daughter-in-law Maura Toohey-Carlisle, grandchildren Julian Carlisle White, and Quinn, Levi, and Zoe Carlisle, brother Ellis "Bud" Carlisle (Joy), sister Grace Carlisle Magee (Jerry), nephews, and niece. A celebration of Dale's life will be held on Friday, January 29, 2016, at 2:30 pm, at the Point Defiance Pagoda, 5400 Trolley Lane, Tacoma 98407. Remembrances can also be made to [email protected]. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to one of the charitable organizations important to Dale: University of Idaho Foundation c/o Carlisle Family Scholarship Endowment, 875 Perimeter Road M/S3143, Moscow, ID 83844-3143, http://www.uidaho.edu/giving, or the Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Foundation, 621 Tacoma Ave. S, Suite 303, Tacoma, WA 98402, http://www.tacomaprobono.org/tpcbf.html

I knew Dale at the University of Idaho from which we both graduated as top ten seniors. I'm so happy to read of his distinguished career. He is missed by many, as well as myself. Carolyn Sanderson Staley

Dear Doris & Family,
I am Jackie and Gary's daughter, Jocelyn Gannon Ruppel. I want to express my sincere desire for Peace and Comfort to all of you since Dale's death. He was a very fine man and was thought of very highly by our family. My Mom, Jackie (Gannon), has very fond memories of Dale during their time spent together. I am grateful to him for helping me, also, when I needed his advice in the past. I am sure you all miss his presence - very much - as all do who knew him and were touched by him during his life. May GOD Bless Him and All Of You.
With Love, Jocelyn Ruppel (Gannon)
