Daniel Becker Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 5, 2021.

Daniel M. Becker passed away unexpectedly on December 25, 2020, at the age of 53. He was predeceased by his father, Charles F. Becker and his brother-in-law, Jeffrey Wray. He is survived by his soulmate and wife of 25 years, Sharon; his mother Rita Becker (late Charles), his siblings, Janice (late Jeffrey) Wray, JoAnne (Kevin) Becker and Ronald (Wanda) Becker; his nieces and nephews, Joshua and Jacob Wray, Joel (Katy) Bassam and Jessi Bassam, Douglas (Caylin) Russo, Mary and Diana Munro, Matthew Guerra, Kimberly and Leah Abraham; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pamela (Duncan) Munro, Daniela (Jeff) Hautzinger, Abrinar Guerra, Vinood (Pam) Abraham, Sands Abraham, and Avery Abraham.

Dan was born on May 6, 1967 in Rochester, NY. He graduated from RIT with a major in Audio Visual Production and Communication. He went on to work at Marriott International where he met Sharon, in 1993. Sharon and Dan moved around the country with the company, creating memories filled with adventure while meeting many cherished friends along the way. Dan most recently worked with Capital One in Mclean, VA.

One of Dan’s passions was music. Those who were lucky enough to get to know him would realize he was an aficionado. He had an impressive ability to name the artist and title of a song in the first few notes. His love of music carried over into playing the drums and going to many concerts.

His talents didn’t stop at music -- he was also a voracious reader and talented writer. He was known as the story teller of the family because Dan could lighten any mood with his sense of humor. He always made his family and friends laugh with his blend of comedy and precise timing.

Dan had a way with animals, a legendary pet whisperer and fur dad to two cats, Iggy (named after Iggy Pop) and Stella.

The adventurer in Dan also loved to travel. He and Sharon were planning to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary with a getaway next year.

Dan was an active person who enjoyed walking the Virginia trails and, this year, surpassed his goal of 2 million steps. He was also a devoted sports fan of the Washington Nationals and the Buffalo Bills.

Above all else, Dan cherished, more than anything, precious time with his family and friends who will miss him dearly.  He was a gentle, kind and selfless soul loved by all who were blessed to have called him friend.

There will be a private service for family only.

Dan was such an incredible teammate and friend to all those who had the pleasure to work with him. His perfectly timed sense of humor and his calm demeanor were always a welcome part of any day and any project he was working on. I knew him for just shy of 2 years and feel such a sense of loss that he is not with us anymore. May the love and light that Dan brought to the world continue to surround his family and friends in the memories of him.

I was deeply sorry to hear about Dan's passing, and I will remember Dan fondly, even though I only knew him for a short time. He was always cool and calm in the face of complex and high stakes events (we always joked about SO much equipment). He inspired confidence in all of us who worked with him and I am so glad I got the opportunity to know him. I will keep Dan's family in my thoughts and prayers -- what a loss for all of us. May you all find peace and comfort in the coming days, and know that you are being held in our hearts.

Dan was always there for me. It was a given. His sense of humor was something that was discussed by Sharon and me over the years... because we wondered how the heck can we document his off-the-cuff, and completely hilarious comments. I miss him so much... True story, Dan's most recent comments on the family text thread include "I like the baby" and "that's a lot of sap". Who can make this stuff up? Dan was one of a kind and also one of the good guys who lived a happy life and gave back in so many ways. I'm confident Dan's spirit will live on in Sharon,
my heart, our family and all those who knew him. Love you so much, baby brother.
